After 30+ years in the energy industry and watching the changes unfold, I can't stress enough the importance of preparing for the changing climate. Texas is seeing record-breaking warmth, and our rural communities are feeling the heat. It's time we start talking about how #distributedgeneration can help. Let's work together to secure a #sustainable and #reliable energy future for our cooperatives and their members.

In our home and on our farm in rural Alberta, we naturally do what we can to conserve energy so our bill is as low as possible. I don't mind the emergency alert to turn off unnecessary lighting etc, because everyone usually could turn off a light or two, however, it needs to encompass commercial also. Any given night, EVERY plaza across Canada, and not just here in Alberta, is lit up like the 4th of July. Stores have big light displays in their windows running sales promos for who at 2am? They are closed! Why do massive stores have all their lights on all night? This is a complete drain on the system and their lighting uses more power than my little 60watt bulb. Nobody cares about any store at 2am so why do we need to know they are there? I believe some lighting is necessary for security and safety of course but that is not what is happening. Perhaps some focus on working with Commercial businesses to lower their hydro use might be a workable solution. Asking people to turn off their stoves and not use them to cook their dinner while big box stores, plazas, malls and other commercial businesses are lighting up the night skies is, well, for lack of a better term, a little ignorant.

24.02.08 Arc flash potential PPE Read the Southern California Edison - Tuesday Presentation on Swithgear Committee - Last Meeting in San Diego AND the Thursday PE Presentation at the Clearwater Florida Meeting. All these presentations discuss eliminating arc flash potentials to ground - human and brush fire protection. In the IEEE Video of the San Antonio IEEE PCIC presentation a payback of less than 2 years is given to install such magnetic resonance solutions. Right now the solution is costly per Southern California Edison - but they agree that improving the speeds of the switches- will drastically lower costs. This requires the Utilities to lead a the engineering development as the Utilities are the only groups that have the capacitance to ground values of each particular circuit. So this topic has been moving forward at the last two Utility Only Meetings- on Tuesday Nights. Next one is April 2, 2024 in Ft. Lauderdale Florida. (Meeting March 31 to April 4, 2024) Be sure to tell the SG&E engineer to bring this topic up and listen to the IEEE videos - two were made. This was an eyeopener by all means. 1. How important is having a reliable source of energy. 2. How great was the idea to send out the alarm. 3. How incredibly and IMMEDIATELY people responded. 4. How much energy/fuel can we save if we stop wasting it and we start using it mindfully.... - Thinking of the lights turned on in the other room when we are not there. -The houses without good insolation where the heat goes just to the air through the thin walls. - The cars and busses where the driver just lets the engine run while having a 10 min break. ( I am talking about the summer time without freezing weather...)
