Kenya has made significant strides in attracting international in-person meetings, jumping to third place on the continent, a remarkable improvement from eighth place in 2022. According to the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) rankings, Kenya hosted 29 high-level global and continental conferences last year, reflecting its growing appeal as a prime destination for international events. South Africa remains the top host in Africa with 98 conferences, followed by Rwanda with 32. This leap in ranking has elevated Kenya's position in Africa and globally, moving up to position 58 from 80th place in 2022. The increased number of conferences is a testament to Kenya's strategic efforts to boost foreign exchange earnings and enhance its global standing. The surge in international meetings comes at a time when tourism is thriving, with the sector valued at Sh572.2 billion. Major events such as the United Nations Habitat Assembly and the Africa Climate Summit have significantly contributed to this success. Nairobi, in particular, hosted 21 meetings, underscoring the city’s pivotal role in Kenya’s conference tourism. This influx of conferences is a boon for local hotels and businesses, creating job opportunities and aiding in the post-pandemic recovery of the hospitality industry.
