New product: GBD Sable Colossus 9552 Smooth Calabash Estate Briar Pipe GBD was one of several prominent examples of a French pipe brand that, due to certain circumstances, became a maker most associated with classic ‘British’ pipes. Founded in 1850 by the French trio Ganneval, Bondier & Donninger, the brand was bought by English company Oppenheimer at the beginning of the 20th century, who opened factories in London and Paris to meet an increasing demand for the make’s high-quality and highly desirable pipes. Partly owing to the make’s inventive, yet traditional shapes, and partly due to the high standards of their production, GBD pipes are particularly coveted by collectors, as well as those who simply appreciate classic, well-made smoking instruments. Along with the Collector and Conquest series, the Colossus was, as can be imagined, a series for GBD’s larger than average pipes. While this one certainly isn’t a magnum-sized GBD, it does nonetheless have a relatively deep bowl, in part owing to its calabash-style shape. The grain on this one is particularly enjoyable, being covered in bird’s-eye patterns, along with some nice cross grain over its rim and underside. The condition is great. There’s some slight finish fading on the rim, along with a small amount of darkening on the inner lip of the chamber, but nothing significant to note. Details: Length: 5.6″ / 142.2mm Bowl Width: 0.93 / 23.62mm Bowl Depth: 1.98″ / 50.29mm Weight: 1.9oz / 56g 👉🏽👉🏽Pipe Link: https://nuel.ink/MFYoDj #pipesmoking #pipes #tobaccopipe #pipesmoker #pipetobacco #tobacco #smokingpipe #briarpipe #briar #smoking #pipemaker #pipecollector #artisanpipes #mbsd

New product: BBB Turnberry 320 Sitter Brandy Estate Briar Pipe, Unsmoked ‘BBB’ originally stood for ‘Blumfeld’s Best Briars’, so named after Louis Blumfeld after he took over the historic Alfred Frankenau Company in 1856. Later, the pipes came to be known as ‘Britain’s Best Briars’. Though the name might have changed, the quality of the pipes did not – they really were fantastic pipes, made in the classic style of the English-French shape chart. Like GBD, Dunhill, and Barling’s, BBB are pipes with a rich history behind them, proudly holding the title of “the oldest trade mark in the [pipe] industry.” This particular BBB is a beautiful example of the make’s Turnberry series. As the series is long-discontinued, I’m not quite sure what its name referred to to, as there are several places in the UK with that name, including the ancient Turnberry castle in Scotland. In this instance it may have been something of a pun, given that the pipe wears an ornate, engine-turned sterling silver collar. In any case, the pipe is a traditional, bent billiard in the English style, with excellent flame grain patterns, a black vulcanite stem, and of course, the aforementioned silver trim. This BBB is also completely unsmoked, with a factory-original bowl coating to help ease in its first uses. It also comes with its original box. Details: Length: 5.5″ / 139.7mm Bowl Width: 0.77 / 19.55mm Bowl Depth: 1.42″ / 36.06mm Weight: 1.9oz / 54g 👉🏽👉🏽Pipe Link: https://nuel.ink/8iShDV #pipesmoking #pipes #tobaccopipe #pipesmoker #pipetobacco #tobacco #smokingpipe #briarpipe #briar #smoking #pipemaker #pipecollector #artisanpipes #mbsd

New product: BBB Minerva 539 Smooth Canadian Estate Briar Pipe, Unsmoked ‘BBB’ originally stood for ‘Blumfeld’s Best Briars’, so named after Louis Blumfeld after he took over the historic Alfred Frankenau Company in 1856. Later, the pipes came to be known as ‘Britain’s Best Briars’. Though the name might have changed, the quality of the pipes did not – they really were fantastic pipes, made in the classic style of the English-French shape chart. Like GBD, Dunhill, and Barling’s, BBB are pipes with a rich history behind them, proudly holding the title of “the oldest trade mark in the [pipe] industry.” Minerva was the Roman goddess of wisdom – ostensibly their equivalent to the Greek Athena. Why did BBB opt to name this series after an ancient deity? I’m afraid I don’t know. Perhaps it has something to do with the darker stain these pipes wear. After all, as Hegel says, the owl of Minerva flies only at dusk. But, I digress… This is a beautiful, highly traditional pipe, one that befits its historic make. It is a Canadian shape, with a sanguine finish and a black ebonite stem. It is also very lightweight and portable, and should be an easy clencher for anyone. The pipe is completely unsmoked, with an original factory bowl coating for easing in the first smokes. It also comes with its original box and sleeve. Details: Length: 5.2″ / 132.0mm Bowl Width: 0.76 / 19.30mm Bowl Depth: 1.7″ / 43.18mm Weight: 1.1oz / 34g 👉🏽👉🏽Pipe Link: https://nuel.ink/nmMEu6 #pipesmoking #pipes #tobaccopipe #pipesmoker #pipetobacco #tobacco #smokingpipe #briarpipe #briar #smoking #pipemaker #pipecollector #artisanpipes #mbsd

New product: BBB Sovereign Smooth Bent Billiard Estate Briar Pipe, Unsmoked ‘BBB’ originally stood for ‘Blumfeld’s Best Briars’, so named after Louis Blumfeld after he took over the historic Alfred Frankenau Company in 1856. Later, the pipes came to be known as ‘Britain’s Best Briars’. Like GBD, Dunhill, and Barling’s, BBB are pipes with a rich history behind them, proudly holding the title of “the oldest trade mark in the [pipe] industry.” From what I can tell, BBB’s Sovereign line was for blonde stained pipes, paired with black vulcanite stems. Lighter stains such as these are typically used on better blocks of briar, as they are far more transparent when it comes to grain quality and patterns. This one has plenty of beautiful, tight-knit bird’s-eye around its bowl, as should be expected. This pipe is completely unsmoked, with an original bowl coating to help with the break in process. The pipe also comes with its original box and sleeve. Details: Length: 5.4″ / 137.1mm Bowl Width: 0.77 / 19.55mm Bowl Depth: 1.58″ / 40.13mm Weight: 1.4oz / 40g 👉🏽👉🏽Pipe Link: https://nuel.ink/MVttzk #pipesmoking #pipes #tobaccopipe #pipesmoker #pipetobacco #tobacco #smokingpipe #briarpipe #briar #smoking #pipemaker #pipecollector #artisanpipes #mbsd

LUU OAK OAK 💪💪💪 The process of splitting logs for staves begins with the careful selection of hardwoods such as oak. The logs are cut into suitable segments, and then the splitting is done manually or mechanically, following the natural grain of the wood to prevent cracks. Each piece is carefully worked to obtain staves of uniform size and thickness, essential for the subsequent assembly of barrels or other wooden products. Correct splitting ensures the staves' strength and tightness, essential for their use in the wine and spirits industry. #stave #oak

New product: 1960s BBB Rare Grain 507 Smooth Dublin Estate Briar Pipe, English Estates ‘BBB’ originally stood for ‘Blumfeld’s Best Briars’, so named after Louis Blumfeld after he took over the historic Alfred Frankenau Company in 1856. Later, the pipes came to be known as ‘Britain’s Best Briars’. Though the name might have changed, the quality of the pipes did not – they really were fantastic pipes, made in the classic style of the English-French shape chart. Like GBD, Dunhill, and Barling’s, BBB are pipes with a rich history behind them, proudly holding the title of “the oldest trade mark in the [pipe] industry.” Pipe-makers like to extol the virtues of the quality of briar used in their pipes, and modern pipes are replete with claims as to how good the grain is on a particular model. This “Rare Grain,” on the other hand, from English make BBB, is more deserving of such a title. It is indeed not common to find factory-made pipes that have the level of consistency in their grain that this one does (though BBB in its prime was hardly just another factory). Its bowl is surrounded by consistent, vertical, straight grain and flame grain patterns, and even its shank has its own brilliant bird’s-eye gleam. Judging by the brass “BBB” rondelle and the stamping on the pipe’s sides, this would appear to be from BBB’s production prior to 1980, after which the make was absorbed by Cadogan Investments, like many others. The condition is great. There’s only one thing I will point out, that being the handful of scratches on the back rim of the bowl. The pipe comes with its original inner tube. Details: Length: 5.8″ / 147.3mm Bowl Width: 0.79 / 20.06mm Bowl Depth: 1.6″ / 40.64mm Weight: 1.0oz / 30g 👉🏽👉🏽Pipe Link: https://nuel.ink/sppKxs #pipesmoking #pipes #tobaccopipe #pipesmoker #pipetobacco #tobacco #smokingpipe #briarpipe #briar #smoking #pipemaker #pipecollector #artisanpipes #mbsd

John’s Pipe Shop Los Angeles Smooth Canadian Estate Briar Pipe It’s quite rare that a tobacconist – rather than a pipe company or artisan maker – has its own article on Pipedia. But, as John’s Pipe Shop lasted for almost a century in Los Angeles, USA, it seems only fitting that this one does. Like many tobacconists, John’s had their own store-brand pipes, produced for them by the established makes of the day. The Pipedia article claims that, among the makes sold under the John’s name, Comoy’s was included. Now, this pipe is long – over seven inches, fact – so if it was a Comoy’s make, it would have to be an Extraordinaire, or perhaps the XXL variant of a shape such as the 309. In any case, it’s a very fine pipe, one that I’m sure will find a loving home with someone that appreciates the English-French classics, but prefers them on the large side. The condition is excellent. There may be one or two handling marks around the bowl (but they’re very minor if that’s the case) and there’s what appears to be a tiny tooth indentation in the pipe’s vulcanite stem, but that’s it. Details: Length: 7.2″ / 182.8mm Bowl Width: 0.86 / 21.84mm Bowl Depth: 1.71″ / 43.43mm Weight: 1.9oz / 54g 👉🏽👉🏽Pipe Link: https://nuel.ink/Y261At #pipesmoking #pipes #tobaccopipe #pipesmoker #pipetobacco #tobacco #smokingpipe #briarpipe #briar #smoking #pipemaker #pipecollector #artisanpipes #mbsd

New product: Gigi Fiamma Bent Billiard w/ Sterling Silver Estate Briar Pipe, Unsmoked Gigi pipes occupy an interesting position in the history of Italian pipe-making. The story begins with the founding of Sociedade Rovera, a pipe-making company in Varese, Italy, by the Rovera family. As members of the Rovera family left to start their own ventures, the dynasty associated with the name would be split into several companies; Angelo Rovera created Ardor with his son Dorelio; Federico created Fe.Ro; Massimilliano created Mario Rovera; Fiorenzo created Gardenesa; and Giorgio created Giorgio Rovera, along with partners Angelo and Adele Bianchi. In 1964, Luigi Crugnola, nephew of the Bianchis, took over the Giorgio Rovera make and changed its name to his own – Gigi. “Fiamma” is Italian for “flame,” with “fiammata” being roughly translatable to a sudden blaze. This is why, on higher-end Italian pipes, such as Castello’s or Viprati’s superlative smooth finishes, instead of “flame grain,” you’ll find “fiammata.” The same principle seems to apply to this Gigi. Though I haven’t been able to find this Fiamma series as being currently sold anywhere, from handling a fair few Gigi pipes in my time, this is the finest-grained I’ve handled so far, and the addition of a sterling silver band would further confirm my hypothesis. In other words, this is not your average Gigi. As the name promises, this Gigi is absolutely covered in flame grain, with its underside being a veritable sea of bird’s-eye patterns. This Gigi is also completely unsmoked, with an original bowl coating to help ease the break-in process. Details: Length: 5.5″ / 139.7mm Bowl Width: 0.79 / 20.06mm Bowl Depth: 1.55″ / 39.37mm Weight: 1.6oz / 48g 👉🏽👉🏽Pipe Link: https://nuel.ink/57YnUl #pipesmoking #pipes #tobaccopipe #pipesmoker #pipetobacco #tobacco #smokingpipe #briarpipe #briar #smoking #pipemaker #pipecollector #artisanpipes #mbsd
