For those not familiar with the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme - eligible companies receive financial incentives based on their incremental sales from products manufactured in India. This incentivizes a targeted focus on upgrading manufacturing capabilities, adopting modern technologies, and expanding production capacities, which would propel the “Make-in-India” initiative further. Recently the Centre has been in talk to introduce this scheme for the railway sector - the focus being on manufacturing of critical components for the Vande Bharat and Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB) train sets. I believe this can become a catalyst that drives domestic manufacturing, reduces our reliance on imports, and creates significant employment opportunities with our country.
