Great to be at the UKSPA - The United Kingdom Science Park Association summer conference with people who connect universities and businesses to create innovation ecosystems that are the bedrock of thriving regional economies. If there is a take home message it is that one size doesn’t fit all. Each region has different strengths, assets and needs - and universities, which are deeply embedded in their local areas and have research expertise, are often at the centre of innovation clusters for these very reasons. Finding appropriate space to work is usually the first hurdle for innovators, and we heard compelling presentations from conference host STEAMhouse, TechWM, Get Nourish3d, Tyseley Energy Park, and Pigeon Posted on this topic. The innovation spaces in Birmingham all have their own distinctive flavour. In the medical technology sector, companies have highly specialised needs in terms of equipment and expertise – and pre-revenue companies need it to be affordable. The award-winning Unit 9 incubator run by University of Birmingham Enterprise meets these needs directly for emerging health tech companies. Located at Birmingham Research Park, Unit 9 has an equipment-sharing agreement with the University of Birmingham, and access to facilities for cell culture or microbiology work at the neighbouring BioHub, Birmingham®. Companies working from Unit 9 benefit from a business support programme that will help them develop a growth plan, and share business knowledge and networks. For further information contact Angie Reynolds, COO at University of Birmingham Enterprise. The UKSPA conference comes just a week after The National Centre for Universities and Business (NCUB) launched its report Arresting the decline: Unlocking the potential of university-SME interaction in the UK. The report underscores the vital role of university collaborations in driving the research and development that leads to new products, services, and technologies – and jobs. Research Engineer | Government Relations, International and Policy | Manufacturing Technology Centre
Hugely important to have senior members of the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology at the MTC - Manufacturing Technology Centre. One of the key ways for the UK to achieve its goal of becoming a global science superpower is through closer collaboration between government, academia and industry… - Identifying the current and future requirements of industry - Utilising the UKs world leading research and development ecosystem to find solutions - Governmet Support through policy creation, funding and national strategies
The MTC was proud to host Department for Science, Innovation and Technology at our Coventry site this week, where over 20 senior members spent the day exploring our impact across a range of sectors, seeing first hand some of our world leading machinery and technology. We support DSIT's responsibility to position the UK at the forefront of global scientific and technological advancement, driving innovation that changes lives and sustains economic growth. The UK manufacturing sector is central to this. The visit was supported by senior members of Innovate UK and we hope that with continued collaboration between industry, academia, and government, the MTC can create an even greater impact through further support of innovation, research, and development. #collaboration #technology #ukmfg

Introducing, Life Science City Aalborg 🏥🏢🏨 A place where healthcare, business, and academia join forces to solve the healthcare challenges of our time. How did Aalborg become a hotspot for Life Science and Digital Health? One answer could be adaptability. Through time Aalborg has consistently shown the capacity to adapt and establish new strengths from the remains of others. 🏭From a grey industrial past 🚢through a blue century of shipbuilding 📡towards a booming telecommunication decade – where Aalborg was known as the Mobilicom Valley. And on to today where the skills and know-how are deployed within: ♻️GreenTech 🌐Connectivity 🧬Life Science. Aalborg is still a worker's city, but also much more. Aalborg has become a knowledge city, where researchers and companies are assigned to some of the most important tasks on the planet. The healthcare sector, both in Denmark and globally, faces significant challenges. There are new disease patterns, a shortage of labour, and difficulties in financing the many new treatment options. In Aalborg pioneers, engineers and healthcare workers collaborate to face these challenges. An innovation district is taking form in the Eastern part of Aalborg. Stay tuned. #LifeScienceCityAalborg
