I help swimming coaches build race-winning skills in a systematic manner. Follow for posts about how to develop the most important skills as quickly and easily as possible.
Acceleration of the arms matters in every stroke, but it REALLY matters in butterfly. There is zero chance the arms are coming around without it. While many swimmers intuitively recognize this, they ‘cheat’ by exiting way too early because they can’t keep the speed up through the whole stroke. When that’s the case, it’s about developing the skill and the strength to hold positions throughout. Using a strong hand path and effectively timing the pull with the undulation and the kick can make all the difference. Limb acceleration through a full range of motion is what it’s all about.

Sprinting is dominated by rotation. Watch what @hugh_shox legs are doing, his hips, his ribcage. It’s a reciprocal pattern of external rotation-internal rotation-external rotation. This is how your body creates torque and drives you forward in space. If you want to sprint faster, improve your capacity to rotate, and your ability to put force into the ground. Chase the hare is a nice game to finish a speed session 🙌 #strengthandconditioning
