NARST Virtual Event: International Collaboration Series #1 Nov. 7, 2023 8:00-9:30 AM Eastern Standard Time The NARST International Committee (IC) is offering a series of three virtual events for NARST members across the globe. The topics in this series are aimed at fostering professional growth of the members by enhancing collaborative support network. The three topics for this event series are: 1. Examining the idea of counterintuitive questions in removing science misconceptions This session will focus on understanding the difference between intuition and misconceptions in science and discuss the possibility of using counterintuitive questions in removing science misconceptions by means of a panel discussion. The session will also have a discussion on how to implement counterintuitive questions in a science classroom. 2. Forming and maintaining cross-country research collaborations NARST members will be invited to explore possible ideas for cross-country research collaboration in science education. The session will invite scholars around the world to share their experiences and discuss necessary partnership steps from writing proposals to publishing papers. More specifically, ideas will be shared on how to initiate a cross-country collaboration, challenges, and opportunities on how to form and maintain such collaborations respecting the cross-country aspect. 3. Surviving and Thriving as an International Graduate Student International graduate students face special cultural and language barriers that can affect their nascent network and their writing progress. This session will invite current and recently completed international graduate students to reflect on how to survive and thrive in their respective programs.
