As the demand for modernized and expanded infrastructure surges, one sector stands out with unprecedented momentum: medical facilities. Healthcare buildings are critical components of the nation’s infrastructure and from what can be seen in planning documents, it appears that almost every region in the U.S. is evaluating some type of healthcare-related upgrade.

Optimizing health care spaces starts with us, and we can now lean on ASHE’s new Core Competency Framework for health care facilities professionals. It’s a great place to locate and discover resources, and assess and improve your skillset. Take some time during National Health Care Facilities and Engineering Week to explore the Framework: https://lnkd.in/g_ZYy-_7 #CelebrateFE

In the latest issue of Health Estate Journal, Patrick Morrison, our Healthcare Sector Director, discusses our use of Modern Methods of Construction (MMC)and a standard ‘kit of parts’ approach to healthcare schemes. This enables us to deliver projects ‘in a significantly safer, better, greener, and more efficient way’ than using traditional construction methods. At NG Bailey, we have been championing MMC for decades, making it a key part of our approach for projects across the business. MMC is a vital tool for ensuring that hospital repairs and developments are delivered efficiently, safely, and without complication. Do the little things matter? There is new evidence to suggest that the way a room is lit can improve our mood, and in the realms of healthcare it can actually improve our recovery. 💫 The design and management of environmental spaces in healthcare settings play a crucial role in shaping patient health outcomes. Factors such as, air quality, noise control, spatial organization, access to nature, and aesthetic elements all contribute to patient recovery and well-being. As the body of evidence grows, healthcare providers and architects are increasingly prioritizing the creation of healing environments that optimize patient health. Future research should continue to explore the intersection between environmental design and healthcare, with a particular focus on creating adaptable, patient-centered spaces that respond to the needs of diverse patient populations. #innovation #patientsafety Jordan.wood@hepacart.co.uk #sunbeltrentals @Craigsexton@sunbeltrentals.co.uk

Health facilities are constantly evolving and the rate of change is increasingly rapid. My thoughts on how planning and procurement must respond.
The operation was a complete success, but the patient died. This familiar fable is used to illustrate an imperfect system having primacy over measures planned to achieve the best outcome. Yet we do this all the time in health building procurement, delivering a beautifully designed product which misses the target of a rapidly evolving set of needs. In the NHS, we have set ourselves a series of standards, procedures and expectations which are geared to fail. In his latest column, Christopher Shaw examines the issues created by rigid specifications required too early in a project, asking the question: 💡 Are we over-designing? ➡️ Read full article: www.fortismagazine.co.uk Christopher has over 30 years of experience in healthcare design and was closely involved in the design of more than 70 major hospitals worldwide. He was Chair of Architects for Health until 2022. Now retired, Christopher works as a consultant to the industry. #NHS #fortis #fortismagzine #freemagazine
