Whilst the specialised support we offer is person centred and there for as long as family needs, we will always recognise when we need to signpost families to other charities, whether that be to find support for siblings or a family whose bereavement isn’t able to be supported by us. We never wish to see anyone have to go it alone. We want to make sure bereaved families are getting the right support they need from the right people, and we recognise when other third sector organisations already offer something which may be beneficial to one of our families. For example, we will often refer families so they can have a quiet getaway at Poppy’s Place through Anam Cara Fasgadh or for sibling support we might suggest Child Bereavement UK or Crocus Highland. We welcome the chance to work collaboratively with other bereavement charities and third sector organisations as we believe there is no benefit in duplicating a service for the sake of it if one is already in place and working well elsewhere. We like to dovetail services wherever possible and welcome the chance to offer bereaved families well rounded and joined up support. Empowering local communities one lease at a time: how two firms have supported local charities and their communities. 💫 Shoosmiths LLP and Irwin Mitchell worked with local charities to establish a base to reach and help those in need in their local communities. Here’s how👇 Acting on behalf of local family bereavement charity, Daisy's Dream, the Real Estate team at Shoosmiths LLP sorted out a new HQ for the charity by taking a ten-year lease of new office space. The team didn’t stop there, rolling their sleeves up the team worked together to breathe life into the new space; tidying and redecorating to make sure it felt welcoming for families using the counselling and support services. ✨ The difference they’ve made: 📈 Before acquiring the new space, attendance for family bereavement support sessions at Daisy’s Dream was low. However, thanks to the support from Shoosmiths LLP, the charity has now seen a 150% increase in attendance and people using the services say that they felt less isolated and alone thanks to the support groups. 🤝 Relying solely on fundraising to exist, without the support from Irwin Mitchell, Ten Little Toes would not have been able to afford the legal services they needed to secure a larger base for the charity. Thanks to this support, they’ve been able to further expand their reach to more families in crisis in the community. Legal support is often an expense smaller charities just can’t afford. Thanks to pro bono support from firms like Shoosmiths LLP and Irwin Mitchell these charities are able to keep providing their important and life-changing services. #ProBono #ProBonoWeek

Scotty's offers wraparound care and support to bereaved military children and young people through our three programmes: 💙 SMILES: This programme is about fun and engagement and includes activities, gifts and group events which have the purpose of making our members smile again and remind them they aren't alone but are part of a supportive community. 💙 SUPPORT: This programme looks after the emotional health and wellbeing of the bereaved military children and young people we support. It includes information and guidance on childhood bereavement for parents and carers, and 1:1 professional bereavement support for children and young people. 💙 STRIDES: This programme focuses on the education and development needs of bereaved Forces children and young people. This includes promoting a positive attitude to learning and providing opportunities to develop life skills.  It also includes a range of small educational grants. New figures show that approximately 2,100 children EVERY year experience the death of a parent who served in the British Armed Forces – many more than previously known.
