New Post: Met Gala 2024 live: Celebrities, red carpet and fashion highlights - https://lnkd.in/gGkNpHT3 Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion is the theme of the Met Museum Costume Institute exhibition, but the dress code for tonight’s gala takes inspiration from the J. G. Ballard short story “The Garden of Time,” which is about the decay of a garden - a metaphor for societal collapse. Expect attendees to go the literal route, with plenty of florals from the likes of Dolce & Gabbana and Jonathan Anderson who, as the head designer of gala sponsor Loewe, has several of his Spring/Summer 2023 looks with grass growing out of them in the exhibition. Alexander McQueen is sure to be in abundance, with his undertones of death and decomposition. Sleeping Beauties is laid out in three sections: land, sea and sky, so we’re likely to see a lot of natural textures, such as Yiqing Yin’s Fall 2013 coral dress or the entirety of Mugler’s Fall 1997 couture collection. The “fun” in runway fashion is looong gone 🌸🐉 What do you see when you think of early 2000s Dior, Moschino and Fendi? Crazy layers? Sexiness? Y2K aesthetic? It’s what I imagine as the most fun era of runway fashion One of my fav collections ever is: Dior Ready-To-Wear, Spring 2005 Colour clashes, bold accessories, punk-inspired but with clear influence from vibrant Japanese street style & Fruits magazine 🤩 What’s so great about it - is the almost DIY look, Like you could recreate something similar from thrifted pieces & some fabric markers And that’s why it’s so fun Aspirational style but not unattainable INspirational (Besides the severely unattainable model look from the 2000s) Does anyone else have a favourite era of fashion? You've probably already seen the photos from the Met Gala. Today, instead of focusing on the visual aspect, we will concentrate on the idea behind the event and what it signifies 💡 🍃 This year's Met Gala theme was "The Garden of Time”. This concept offers several interpretive paths, none of which directly reference the Brothers Grimm. "The Garden of Time" is a short story written by J.G. Ballard. It explores the concept of timeless beauty. The story's protagonists, Count Axel and his wife, live in a world where natural beauty has been replaced by crystalline structures, including their garden of crystalline flowers. What does this have to do with fashion? The story suggests that true beauty is not dependent on fleeting trends or natural materials, but rather on the ability to create something that transcends time and captures the essence of eternal elegance. ⏳This year, the Met Gala is opening the exhibition "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion”, which is a tribute to the beauty and timelessness of vintage fabrics and fashion designs throughout the years. To align with the theme, several true vintage looks stood out on the red carpet: such as Zendaya's second red-carpet appearance in a corseted gown from Givenchy's spring/summer 1996 couture collection and her floral bouquet headpiece from Alexander McQueen's 2007 archives. Emily Ratajkowski wore a long-sleeved, backless gown from Atelier Versace's 2001 couture collection and Kendall Jenner showed up in a previously unworn Givenchy by Alexander McQueen autumn/winter 1999 couture dress, and later changed into a winged spring/summer 1997 dress. 👉🏻 The theme and exhibit highlight the critical role of sustainability and preservation in fashion, delving into the various ways that time and nature can impact it. The fall couture shows in Paris were held earlier than the usual July dates to avoid clashing with preparations for the Olympic Games, but the season still offered some Parisian high jewelry houses a chance to shine brightly. In Paris, the 67-piece Hermès collection, Les Formes de la Couleur (the Shapes of Color), was the largest the house had produced — and arguably its most playful. A freestyle brushstroke, for example, was rendered as a mono-earring called Fresh Paint, with green tsavorite garnets simulating pigment. [ 2023 in a nutshell ] Chances are that you have already seen this picture, and that you know who is wearing the dress. 🪡 Yet, you probably did not know that 𝟲𝟬𝟬 𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀 𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗿𝗼𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗲… until now! Then who? Who hand-created this custom gown for the 2018 #MetGala? 🤔 Well, someone at @Versace, remaining true to the spirit of its famously opulent house codes. 𝙎𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙤𝙣𝙚 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙩𝙤 𝙗𝙚 𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙚𝙙. 👀 Which is pretty funny as the dress and its owner were mentioned at least a hundred thousand times all over the Internet! 💡 Here it is, the common trait between these workers’ amazing skills and Keck Chimie products: being voluntary kept hidden in the #fashionindustry. So whoever they are — and most certainly, plural form! — we dedicate this post to their talent in broad daylight. 👉 In 2018, the Costume Institute exhibition celebrated “Fashion and the Catholic Imagination". And Versace’s seamstresses did way more than just embracing this theme. 👗 Their ornate ruby & gold design, completed with intricate and extensive beading, jewel-encrusted tailored corset and sheer panels 𝒆𝒎𝒃𝒐𝒅𝒊𝒆𝒅 𝒊𝒕. Do you think the dressmakers knew their haute couture masterpiece would make such a lasting impression?
