Today is World Hearing Day 2024! World Hearing Day aims to reduce stigma and increase awareness of hearing loss by sharing information. With the theme being "Ear and hearing care for all!", the focus is on ensuring access to ear and hearing care services to all who need it, as an essential health service. Below are some commonly heard myths alongside the realities of hearing loss. We hope that by sharing these, we can help change people’s mindsets about hearing loss ⬇ According to World Health Organization (WHO), who run World Hearing Day, over 80% of ear and hearing care needs remain unmet globally. Dear NYT, please add "CPS" to the stew of factors. Some people parent this way because they don't have a choice to disconnect from mainstream culture. Try letting your kids play in the streets today. Try drinking with friends while your kids are in the other room. Try not having your 6-year-old in a 5-point harness booster seat. Most importantly, try doing any of these things while parenting marginalized. For some, parenting styles are not voluntary when family separation is at stake. While the privileged Joneses may be adopting intensity at will, if others don't keep up, they may not keep their kids. Let's expand this conversation further and acknowledge the very real consequences for non-status quo parents when it comes to the ability to opt out of harmful parenting styles. Let's see all parents and their realities, especially those who have been unjustly impacted by the system for not getting in line with the program.
