Exciting news! ✈️ Miami International Airport (MIA) is set to significantly boost its cargo capacity by constructing a new $400 million, four-story cargo facility.
Approved by the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners, this state-of-the-art facility will increase MIA's total cargo capacity by at least 50%, or up to two million tonnes annually, bringing the airport's capacity to a minimum of 4.5 million tonnes by 2029.
Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava and County Commissioner Raquel Regalado highlighted the transformative impact of this project, emphasizing its role in job creation and economic growth.
The Vertically Integrated Cargo Community (VICC) will generate 8,500 temporary and 2,500 permanent jobs, contributing $500 million in wages during construction and $100 million post-construction.
This project will enhance MIA's cargo capabilities and will set a new benchmark for sustainable and resilient infrastructure.
The VICC will achieve silver certifications from both LEED and Global Infrastructure Basel, reinforcing MIA's commitment to environmental responsibility.
With nearly $9 billion in capital improvements planned over the next decade, MIA is poised to elevate its status as a premier global hub for commerce.
This historic investment is a testament to the strategic vision driving Miami-Dade County's economic future.
