💡 A key to thriving in hospitality today? Mentorship. With annual turnover rates estimated between 70 to 80 percent, driven by factors like low wages, long hours, and limited career growth opportunities, the hospitality industry continues to face significant retention challenges. One way to help - #Mentorship: 90% of employees who have a professional mentor report feeling content at work, and those who've had the chance to be mentored are five times more likely to be promoted. These numbers speak volumes about the impact of effective mentorship programs. I really enjoyed this article and hearing how Hospitality America and Justin Deyo are focusing on mentorship to attract and retain top talent while cultivating future leaders in their organization. This aligns very well with the key theme from Anthony Melchiorri's keynote last week at the #NEREJ Hospitality Summit about the importance of Employee Development and always hiring for personality over skill in this business. #Hospitality #HotelManagement #LeadershipDevelopment #EmployeeEngagement

At some companies, title equates to power. If you don’t have the right title, you lack access to key meetings & information, you lack autonomy to do your work, and you lack authority to make decisions. But what happens if an organization ignores formal titles and instead values ideas and expertise? Well, it creates a culture where employees, especially junior team members, can grow and learn. And this is exactly what drove a culture of employee loyalty at Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. For my latest installment of my "Enjoy Your Stay" series, I dive into the value of creating a non-hierarchical culture. I heard stories and examples from 5 different former employees on how this culture of rejecting hierarchy benefited their experience and their career trajectory. In particular, there were three ways in particular that Starwood exemplified this non-hierarchical culture: 1. 💡 Cultivating a space where the best idea wins 2. 🤓 Valuing expertise and empowering experts to lead 3. 🧑🏫 Providing exposure and opportunities to team members Check out the full post in the comments below. Have you ever worked at a company that lacked a hierarchical culture? How did that affect your experience? #enjoyyourstay #starwoodproud #culture #employeeloyalty #employeeengagement #careercoach

Operations teams are constantly under pressure, yet they keep smiling through it all. It’s time for departments like marketing, HR, finance, and others to step up and truly understand what it takes to be on the frontlines. The challenges of dealing with demanding guests, VIPs, and owners aren’t black and white. SOPs can’t fix everything without a deeper understanding of real-time operations. If everyone had the chance to experience this firsthand, we’d see real change and better support across the board. After all, it’s not just about doing your job; it’s about shared goals and teamwork to create exceptional guest experiences. #Hospitality #Leadership #Operations #Teamwork #HR #Management #Employee

🤔 Remember when you were onboarded to your role? Do you remember how - in most circumstances - you were probably thrown to the wolves 🐺 or learned in the deep end🏊🏾? In my experience - that is how most hospitality professionals feel about their onboarding. There is a general sense of I was left to figure it out! Was this the same case for you? When I work with hoteliers on service standards - my first and primary thought isn't the staff that is currently working in their job. I think about those that will join later. I think 🤔 - Do these standards give enough direction that someone new to the team or company will feel they know how to be successful? I like to think of standards as the playbook to success. Without standards - it's just a little league team looking for direction. 🧢⚾️ When onboarding team members - standards have a much bigger part to play to a successful onboarding experience than operational leaders might think. When you have clearly defined standards combined with well managed training criteria, you create an environment where new members are able to understand the expectations and focus on mastering them. Without standards - teams are left having adapt to what the day brings and all the nebulous that is associated with that type of learning. Clear standards mean an easier onboarding experience, a clear understanding of expectations, and a measure by which improvement and opportunities can be tracked. So take a look at your areas. Can you easily point to and find the standards of the role? Can you adequately provide content to any member of your team (new or seasoned) that helps them define their success in a clear and meaningful way? These are simple questions to which a leader with clearly defined, and well managed standards, can confidently respond - YES! Let me know your onboarding story below👇 #hospitality #standards #hotel #restaurants #training #service #goforgold #quality #HR #onboarding

The hospitality industry is unique because people are the heart of our product. Every time a guest walks into a hotel, it's our front-line team that leaves the first impression. To elevate guest experiences, we must focus on empowering our staff. When employees feel trusted and valued, they go the extra mile, turning challenges into opportunities for outstanding service. Here are a few ways we can foster that empowerment: Encourage Decision-Making: Let team members make choices within their roles. Provide Resources: Equip them with the tools they need to succeed. Open Communication: Create platforms for sharing ideas and feedback. Flexible Scheduling: Allow adjustments to better fit their lives. When we invest in our team's growth and well-being, we’re not just enhancing productivity; we’re creating a positive workplace culture that reflects in every guest interaction. Let’s continue to support our amazing staff and celebrate their contributions! How do you empower your team? I’d love to hear your thoughts! https://lnkd.in/dxwevfRJ #hospitality #employeeempowerment #teamwork #leadership #guestexperience

Building and leading a team in the hospitality industry boils down to three key elements: hiring the right people, effective training, and a supportive culture. 1. Hiring the Right People: The foundation of any great team is its people. At HC-Resource, we focus on finding individuals who not only have the necessary skills but also align with our values and culture. The right hires bring enthusiasm, adaptability, and a strong work ethic, setting the stage for success. 2. Training: It’s not just about teaching skills; it’s about empowering your team to handle any situation. Comprehensive training programs ensure your staff is confident and capable, whether they’re dealing with a rush hour or a guest complaint. At Neo Pizza, we invested in training that covered everything from customer service to crisis management. The result? A team that’s ready for anything. 3. Supportive Culture: A supportive culture is the backbone of any great team. It’s about creating an environment where everyone feels valued and heard. Open communication, regular feedback, and recognition of hard work go a long way. At HC-Resource, we believe that when your team feels supported, they’re more engaged, more motivated, and ultimately, they deliver better results. In the fast-paced world of hospitality, these three elements can make all the difference. Let’s discuss how you're able to implement effective hiring, training, and foster a supportive culture in your teams. #Leadership #TeamBuilding #Hospitality #Training #CompanyCulture
