Today marks #NationalPotholeDay! As a member of the Pothole Partnership, we’re highlighting the critical role tyre safety plays in keeping drivers, passengers, and road users safe. Potholes can cause hidden damage to tyres, wheels, and suspension, leading to serious safety risks. We’re encouraging drivers to check their tyres after hitting a pothole (if it’s safe to do so) and to ensure tyres are properly inflated to reduce the risk of damage. It's a start at least. Potholes are a growing menace, not only to tyres and wheels, but to a car's steering and suspension as well, and after the recent snow and ice, things are only going to get worse. I read this somewhere and saved it - here’s what to do if you hit a pothole: 1. Use FixMyStreet If the pothole is on a local road, report it through the FixMyStreet website or app. It’ll go straight to the local council for action. 2. Contact National Highways For motorways or A-roads, you’ll need to report the pothole to National Highways. They handle these major roads and can respond quickly. 3. Take Some Photos Document the pothole’s size, location, and depth with a few quick photos. This is important if you need to file an insurance claim or seek compensation for repairs. Already Have Wheel Damage? If you’ve hit a pothole, get your wheels checked! Your local tyre dealer or alloy wheel specialist can help check your tyres and wheels. Tackling these issues now could save you from a much more expensive fix later. Let’s help keep the roads safe — not just for you, but everyone else out there trying to avoid that dreaded clunk.
