I have done case studies on both Fukushima Nuclear event and the Boeing 737 MAX and am now working on a case study looking into the panel blow off on the Alaska air Boeing jet. I suspect there is something going on with the culture at Boeing (and Downer brings it up) that is causing an erosion of the safety culture at Boeing. #riskmanagement #highreliability #safetyculture

Recent work from UW Madison and Lawrence Berkeley Lab on nuclear arms control: For the past year, UW Madison and LBL have been researching techniques to help make stockpile monitoring more secure. The goal of this work is to help ensure that the devices used to monitor a stockpile have not been tampered with. We developed a form of differential fuzz testing, combined with using statistical techniques, to detect that a monitoring device maybe be producing bogus results. This approach allows us to evaluate the monitoring device's integrity without disassembling it or requiring intrusive access to its internal structure. An update for everyone interested in how we're going to transform cislunar transportation. And it's good stuff. In late October, the Federal Aviation Administration quietly released an Advisory Circular providing us with critical guidance on how it intends to regulate the nascent commercial space nuclear industry's offerings. This really is *great* news for anyone working this problem set - and that includes Dark Fission Space Systems. Uncertainty regarding the regulatory regime and the FAA's stance drives a lot of hesitation among potential customers and investors. The Circular's guidance goes a long way towards clearing up that uncertainty. We're happy to have already had the opportunity to speak with FAA regulators about their approach and how we can work to ensure compliance with their safety and security requirements.
