Today, as we commemorate Juneteenth, I reflect deeply on the brutal history of slavery in America—a past that must be acknowledged and understood if we are to move forward as a unified society. This day is a reminder of the broken chains and a celebration of the continuous journey toward equality and freedom. As a black man in America, I have witnessed significant shifts in the tides of racial equality over my lifetime. The journey is far from over, but the progress gives me hope. It instills in me a belief that the world my daughters will grow up in and eventually grow old in will be one where equality is not just an aspiration but a reality. In my career in the decarbonization industry, I've seen parallels between our society's efforts to address racial injustice and our fight against climate change. Both challenges require a deep commitment, not just from a few but from all of us. Our progress in race relations in my lifetime reinforces my belief that we can achieve monumental tasks together with a common goal. This Juneteenth, let us remember the long road behind us and, more importantly, the path forward. Let us draw from our shared history the strength and inspiration needed to tackle the great challenges of our time, including the urgent threat of climate change. Together, we can build a sustainable world that honors our past while forging a just and equitable future. As we celebrate Juneteenth today, let it remind us of society's past errors. Recognizing these faults is crucial, but our collective effort to identify and implement solutions is equally essential. Let's continue to push forward together as we strive for a society where equality and sustainability are not just ideals but realities for all.
