THE ACT OF FAITH Hebrews 11:1 - "Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." Faith extends beyond mere positive thinking; it profoundly influences our mindset and shapes our actions, which in turn affect our experiences and reality. Thus, the greatest battle of human history remains the battle of the mind. A closer look at history reveals that nothing of significance has been achieved without faith. For example, the light bulb exists today because someone was audacious enough to believe in its possibility. Similarly, our aspirations to work with certain corporations are achievable because visionaries had faith in what once seemed unattainable. To all young Nigerians who may have lost hope in the country’s potential, remember that "Giant of Africa" is not merely a title but a reminder of who you are. I believe in an unseen God, and therefore, it would be unrealistic not to believe in the promising future of a land richly endowed with potential. However, significant work lies ahead. Matthew 17:20: "For truly, I say to you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, nothing will be impossible for you." #EdenLife

THE DANGER OF STUPID IDIOTS Pat Utomi Before I get badgered by those unwilling to read or lacking in the discipline to digest concepts, let me announce upfront that no insults are intended by either the title, or the message below But I have seen enough of the rush to abuse, by those who miss the meaning of concepts different from their everyday usage, that I suspect an upfront caveat may slow down the rush to conclusion by those who give meaning to the real insult ; which is that the best way to hide something from most of us is to write it down in a book. The fear of reading should be overcome so we can find meaning and understanding. I know Nigeria is in grave danger from cleavages separating us from them, as emotion steps down reason, in many, including some very well educated and even a few I know of in who built reputations as cosmopolitan thought leaders. These may sometime soon confront the puzzle and the shame the German elite dealt with after World War II. That was also the lot of some in Rwanda who were confronted with their past after the Genocide and the triumph of Paul Kagame. I have chosen therefore to leave everyday meaning of the words Idiot and stupid and use them in context, as conceptual expression of phenomena by philosophers and social scientists. To the wise men of Ancient Greece we first turn for their typology of men in society. Those who think of themselves alone as the basis for engagement they called Idiots. Not an insult. Just a category. Those who think of and empathize with others so long as those others share paroachial bonds, like blood lines, language or religion, they called tribesmen. As Joshua Greene elucidates in the book ; Moral Tribes , exploring emotion, reason and the growing gap between us and them, the tribes man is threatened by outside groups and is perpetually at war with those outside his tribe. When people mature to a universal sense of the dignity of the human person and live human solidarity, they move up to the category of citizen. All you need do is navigate social media today and you will encounter the reign of tribesmen in extant Nigeria. Make a trick statement and you will discover they don’t read. Once your name fits those they are programmed to insult they hit the keyboard saying the same things they said yesterday. And the day before. Many were deployed there by politicians purportedly trying to build a nation. Then there is the concept of stupidity. Back in my days in Grad School in the late 1970s I was struck by the work of several academics at the University of California, Berkeley. One was a public policy scholar, Aaron Wildavsky, and the other was Carlo M Cipolla. The former gave us the value of complex redundancy in policy formulation and the latter gave us the five laws of human stupidity. Part 2 loading...... N:B: I do not own the right to this publication, the right belongs to Prof. Pat Utomi

Mansa Musa’s Golden Heart A long time ago, in West Africa, there was a boy named Musa who loved learning about the world. He would sit by the fire at night, listening to travelers’ stories about distant lands, and dream about how he could make his own kingdom a better place one day. When Musa grew up, he became the king of Mali, a land rich in gold and culture. But what made Musa special wasn’t his riches—it was his heart. He believed that wealth was meant to be shared, not hoarded. One day, Musa decided to go on a journey to the holy city of Mecca, a trip called a pilgrimage. He didn’t go alone. Thousands of people came with him—scholars, builders, musicians, and camels carrying gold. As they traveled through the desert and into great cities, Musa shared his gold with the poor, built mosques for people to pray, and gave gifts to kings. The people he met couldn’t believe how generous he was. “Who is this kind man?” they asked. “He must be the richest king in the world!” When Musa returned home, he didn’t stop helping others. He built schools and libraries in the city of Timbuktu, making it a place where people from all over the world came to learn. Mansa Musa’s story isn’t just about riches—it’s about using what you have to make the world brighter for everyone. Imagine This: If you were Mansa Musa, what would you do to help others? Unity in Diversity: A Necessity for Progress In a world that often feels divided, let us heed this timeless call for unity: "Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment." - 1 Corinthians 1:10 Are We Perfectly Joined Together? In a diverse and vibrant country like Nigeria, where the Hausa/Fulani, Igbo, and Yoruba communities each bring their unique strengths and perspectives, the question arises: Are we perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment? Nigeria’s rich tapestry of cultures and ethnicities is both a source of strength and a challenge. The Hausa/Fulani, Igbo, and Yoruba communities each contribute uniquely to our nation’s identity, yet the journey towards unity and mutual understanding continues to be complex. Historically, colonial legacies and socio-political dynamics have shaped our interactions, sometimes fostering division rather than cohesion. However, the potential for unity lies in our ability to embrace our differences and work towards common goals. As we reflect on this question, let us consider how we can bridge gaps, foster inclusivity, and build a nation where every voice is heard and valued. Unity in diversity is not just an ideal; it is a necessity for our collective progress. #hausafulani #igbo #yoruba #CommonPurpose #Collaboration #StrengthInDiversity #unity #togetherness #harmony #onemind #nodivision #UnityInDiversity #TogetherWeThrive #CommunityStrength #OneVoice #HarmonyInDiversity #sharedvision #UnitedWeStand

FAITH- Normally expressed as a leap that one needs to take to do something new. 🔦 At a church service last Sunday, the lights went out but the phones lit the stage while the sermon continued. 2 Filipino 🇵🇭 missionaries that had started this church in Myanmar 🇲🇲 some 20+ years ago were back in town for a visit. Their message? It takes faith to GO just as it takes faith to STAY. 📖 The scriptures are full of characters who had faith to do things which made 0 sense: The life of Moses was a case in point- deciding to remain true to his heritage as Hebrew rather than indulge in the richess of Egypt (being raised in Pharoah's household). Sports car 🏎 vs. beaten up Toyota 🚗? It may seem like a no-brainer, but time and again people of faith have followed paths that made no sense, looked foolish and even downright stupid. The preaching is super timely, amidst the Exodus of youth from pastor's kids to factory workers- the contagion of fear and hopelessness is in full swing. ⚠️ It takes faith to flee from danger, to be in hiding. It takes faith to move out and stay in a foreign land, away from families, friends and comforts. 💪 It takes faith to stay in a nation with so much uncertainty. The same faith that the missionaries had when they chose to remain in Myanmar for 5 years with 2 newborn kids at a time when the country was arguably in a much less ideal state. Faith is not a competition, not about specific choices. Faith is a connection. A connection is what us social creatures need, what we choose to connect to makes a world of difference: is it ourselves, our circumstances, our past or something else? For me, I choose the lenses of faith and choose to stay. #myanmar #faith #connection #perspectives #reflections #thanksgiving #hope
