“My grandma has peace of mind because she knows she has a co-pilot. My mom has peace of mind because she knows, concretely, that my grandma got where she needs to go.” In a recent interview with TheStreet's Retirement Daily, Uber Health lead engineer Jeremy Hintz discusses the ease and seamlessness Uber Caregiver will provide for care-receivers and caregivers alike. He also unpacks what inspired him to build the solution—and how he ensured that the “magic of Uber” remained front and center. For more: https://bit.ly/3zzJuBh

Uber Health recently announced Uber Caregiver in the US, a new solution designed specifically for caregivers and their loved ones. As someone with experience in seniors’ care and with elderly parents, I believe this is a significant step forward in improving care coordination and support for our loved ones/ care recipients. Here are a few standout features of this tool: 💡 Caregiver Integration: Care-receivers can add a caregiver to their Uber profile, empowering them to request and monitor rides and deliveries (medicines, groceries, etc.). 💡Health Benefits/ Insurance Set-up: The caregivers can apply care recipients' health benefits/ insurance card for eligible payments. 💡Tracking progress together: The care giver and the care recipient both can track real time progress of rides/ deliveries. 💡Three way chat feature: This chat feature allows the care-giver, rider and driver to stay in communication. Hoping the feature is rolled out soon in other countries too. :) #healthcareinnovation #healthcaretrends #seniorscare #caregivers #caregiverburnout #uber #uberhealth #ubercaregiver #latestinhealthcare #healthcarestrategy #healthcare https://lnkd.in/d2QWQCXZ

Before Smartcare, Ashford Home Care struggled to manage client care with a series of spreadsheets. With efficiencies gained using Smartcare, the agency grew to over 80 active clients in four years. With 60 active caregivers, Ashford Home Care has an average annual turnover rate of only 30% – far below the industry average of 77%. Learn how they did it: https://lnkd.in/gvvTNtu7

When we make negative assumptions about others, in thought or action, it robs us and “others” of our collective humanity. Welcome to quick myth vs. fact post #09 re: things we can choose to get right about aging. Myth: Older adults are terrible drivers FACT: The absolute number of crashes involving older drivers is low. Older drivers are more likely to use seat belts and follow speed limits and are less likely to drive while texting, intoxicated, or at night (from Dr. B. Levy, Breaking the Age Code, 2022). According to Stateline, legislatures have become increasingly reluctant to restrict driver’s licenses for seniors or impose extra requirements, such as vision or road tests based solely on advancing age. That’s partly because older people are generally considered safe drivers, more programs exist to improve driving skills, and recent studies have shown that many of the restrictions aren’t as effective as once thought in preventing traffic fatalities. It’s also because advocates for seniors and motorists, such as AARP and AAA, argue that age shouldn’t be used as the sole measure of an older person’s fitness to handle a car (https://lnkd.in/gyz6VgA9). Broadly, as stated by R. Marottoli and J. Coughlin in a 2011 abstract (see comments), safety and mobility are values that must both be reflected and optimized in society and policy. Some considerations for the here and now: If it is decided independent driving is no longer an option, PLEASE let us engage with the person newly no longer driving to collaboratively (and sometimes creatively) come up with ways to still make “What Matters Most” within reach. For example, if I am used to doing these things on my own, what’s the new plan? •Grocery shop where I select my own things (and see other people) •Go to the gym or class at health and wellness center (and see other people) •Shop for supplies that fuel my purpose (and see other people) •Go fishing or to an art fair, gun show, museum, classic car show, parade, air show, protest, or a new café (and see other people) •Get my hair done or go to the bank (and see other people) •Visit someone in the hospital (and see other people) •Attend special celebrations and/or milestone events (and see other people) •Go to visit friends, relatives on a regular day Comparatively speaking, it seems medical and faith related outings are top of mind (can still be VERY tricky to find resources/coordinate), but what about all the other things? Safety I contend also includes being able to live. #ageinformed #lifecourse #safedriving #purposefulliving #behavioralhealth
