I hope everyone is well. If you are like me, you'll be gearing up to attend WASD next week. This is something that excites me for many reasons: * It's a chance to take off my responsible cap, and get excited for indie titles * I get to meet up with friends - Shout out to Fourth Floor for this year's lounge * I may take out the camera and pretend I am a top tier creative Conventions and events are important in my eyes. In a digital era where news is traditionally updated in seconds, brands and consumers are able to be in one space, together, all at the same time. I love that in the current generation, we can be a part of betas from the comfort of our own homes. But I do miss the excitement of physical media from decades ago! I was an avid collector of magazines and my friendship circle would have huge discussions of games previewed on the demo discs that came with publications. We would meet up and play the demos, or even swap them so out friends could give their opinion of the previews. Again, the conversations still happen now: but to me it's not the same. There's something special about human engagement that I value, and hope this tradition doesn't stop - before we all end up living in vaults like in Fallout: In isolation. If you are attending WASD, you can find a list of playable games by visiting: https://lnkd.in/erH7D-Ms. This week, I'm going to watch some trailers so I can create a list of titles I wish to play. Last year I had a great time playing Anger Foot, Pocket Bravery, Have A Nice Death and Gori: Cuddly Carnage - I'm excited to see what gems I'll discover for 2024. #WASD #Gaming #IndieGames #GamingEvents #Indie

Hey guys! I’ve been in the games industry for 10 years now. I’ve seen a lot, good and bad. Lots of things that work to create amazing games and certain things that will completely kill your project. In this video I tried to create the Ultimate Guide for those wanting to work with games. Here we talk about which areas you can specialize in — art, design, coding, and more — and how it is like to work in games. So if you always dreamed of working in the industry or know people who do, I hope this content can be of use for you. Also if you already work in the industry, comment below your best and worse experiences throughout your career! It would be great to see. #gamedev #careeringames #gamedevelopment https://lnkd.in/d98CrC25

I Empower Through Storytelling | Digital Storyteller | Crafting Narratives That Promote a Sense of Belonging
Happy National Video Game Day! 🎮 Video games have been a meaningful part of my life for over twenty plus years. I didn’t start gaming with a Game Boy—though there’s a funny story there—but my first proper introduction was Barbie Fashion Designer. Yes, it was a simple point-and-click dress-up game, but the younger me loved it! It opened the door to a lifelong passion. From there, I got into games like X-Men vs. Street Fighter, My Little Pony: Friendship Gardens, The Sims (the first one, naturally), Animal Crossing, Nintendogs, Pokémon Platinum, Style Savvy, Elite Beat Agents, Plants vs. Zombies, Dragon Age: Origins, Psychonauts, Overwatch, Stardew Valley, Warframe, and countless of others. What I love most about video games isn’t just the entertainment and immersion. It’s the feeling of being part of the story, where I express myself through characters, make impactful choices, and solve challenges that test my strategy and creativity. Games have always been more than just a hobby—they’re a way of thinking, creating, and connecting. Today, I celebrate the stories we experience through games and the incredible communities built around them. 🎉 So, what game has had a lasting impact on you? #NationalVideoGameDay #GamingCommunity #StorytellingInGames #PassionForPlay

Making a game on your own is a huge challenge, especially if it's your first game ever! Work is slow, but I'm happy with what I've achieved so far. I face many technical difficulties, but probably the biggest challenge is fighting with myself to continue working on this project. a lot of doubts and lack of time leave their mark, but also a lot of new ideas for the game appear on the horizon. This game is also the fulfillment of my youthful dreams and testing myself in a new role, even if it never goes beyond my hard drive, I think it's worth trying. #game #gamedev #indiegame #onemanarmy #unity

I love making games. I do it as a full-time job and also do it in my spare time. Over the last month, I spent around 20 hours jamming out a little game called: Ultra Ball The best way to describe it would be if Breakout, Pong and Super Hexagon had a baby. I wrote up a postmortem about the process and my learnings, for things like: - The initial game idea and how I had to deviate from it - The development process - The lessons I learnt Read about it here 👉 https://lnkd.in/eztDYDc9 #gamedev | #indiedev | #creativity

Really wondering how indie games get the publicity they do. Obviously there’s a level of quality to be seen throughout these special circumstances- like Hades, Enshrouded, Stardew Valley, Etc. But what really gets them out front? Is it the publisher? Is it built on the relationship these developers have with the Early Access Communities they built? Is it just pure luck? Is it understanding trends? Or is it something else entirely? I’m interested in what the thoughts are-either through industry experience, statistics, or through stories you’ve seen. #indiegames #independentstudios #thoughts #wttwgames #gamestrends #gamesindustry

Co-Founder & CPO at SSG | Diversity & Inclusion Champion | Authentic Super Connector | Community Builder | Team leader who loves empowering can-do creative attitudes 🌈
During this time the game industry's turbulence is shocking, and the launch of a new game studio like Simply Sweet Games might seem like a wild venture. However, I am deeply proud of my journey towards building inclusivity, equity, and diversity in gaming. After all, these values have been the driving force behind my decision to establish a new game studio with the amazing Tina Merry. Spaces like DIG are essential now more than ever. They remind us that our choices as leaders and creators can either lead to significant industry improvement or, unfortunately, to a collateral wasteland of effort and broken dreams. #realtalk For anyone recently affected by industry layoffs, I highly recommend taking a moment of rest. Watch the DIG group as it's more than a network; it's a community that supports and uplifts, ensuring that no one has to navigate these changes alone. #GamingIndustry #InclusivityInGaming #equity #diversity #Leadership

The Gandalf of Games, inspiring game devs to step out their door into grand adventures ✨ Leading the #indierevolution 👾 Eternal advocate for the indie & junior dev 🗣️ Learn to make games with me! 🚀
I am so excited to invite each and every one of you wonderful people to play 8 platformer games that our current batch of students built in just 6 days! ✨ ➡ Play them here! https://lnkd.in/emaYcD24 In IGA Level 3 at the Indie Game Academy, our student teams have 4 months to each build and release a game together. However, a few Cohorts ago we introduced the "Practice Jam" concept to the curriculum, where the same teams would finish a micro sized game together in just a few days. The idea was to give teams a safe space to fail, and a bedrock for future lessons about their larger projects to flourish in. It also happens to mirror what we recommend studio founders do with the timebox of the games they release with their team, starting small with just some jams, moving up to games that take a few weeks, then finally getting to some that take a few months. Play these 8 wonderful games and let us know your favorite down below!! I'm not allowed to pick favorites...... And of course, repost to spread the love! 💜 Let's give some hype to the Prefects (team leads) of each team too! Chief Development Officer, Invictus Games Foundation. Advisor and leader of global relationship led partnerships, philanthropy & fundraising.
Today marks my first day at The Invictus Games Foundation and I feel beyond privileged and excited! For 10 years The Invictus Games Foundation has delivered life changing impact and healing through sport. Invictus comes from Latin meaning undefeated or uncounquerable. From its beginnings with the first Invictus Games in London in 2014 to today, thousands of veterans and service personnel, and their families, from over 20 nations have demonstrated remarkable spirit, courage and achievements. The work of The Invictus Games Foundation is needed more than ever. The world around us is in an even more perilous state. We live in an age marked by polarisation and division. Conflicts rage around the globe. Anger and resentment towards those that are different seem to pervade societies everywhere. The Invictus community challenges that, and proves that unity is not just possible but formidable. The beauty of the Invictus Games, and the community it builds lies in how it brings people together, no matter one's nationality, background or personal struggles. The spirit of the Invictus Games transcends race, time and borders. It is a collective built from courage and mutual respect. Having survived the crucible of armed combat and forged through the challenges to rebuild bodies and minds, the Invictus community show us all the best of humanity that is possible. Let the journey begin, and I pray I can play a small part in growing the truly humbling and inspiring mark the The Invictus Games Foundation is making in the world. https://lnkd.in/dTAnuGGG
