Creating whole worlds, with their systems, their rules, their characters, their physics, to tell stories, to empower users to live lasting digital adventures with their friends, is hard. #SkullAndBones development was long and complex, you all know this. But today, it's launching, and i strongly encourage you to give this game its chance. Not for what it could have been. Not for what you might have heard in the press about its development. But for what it is, for the value it tries to provide now and for hopefully years to come. Such a sad situation for Arkane Studios Austin. No team deserves to be shutdown like this. I played a lot of Redfall and enjoyed it. This isn't all corporate greed and stock prices; we as fans have a role in this as well. I'm not saying that we shouldn't critique or call out unkept promises during development. Far too often when we criticize, we lose the human element behind these large projects. Those at Arkane, Bethesda Game Studios, タンゴゲームワークス（Tango Gameworks）, this is not your fault. Big congrats to the hundreds of talents who worked on #AvatarFrontiersOfPandora, that we release today! With this game, we wanted to show that titles based on famous movies IPs could be far more than their usual reputation of opportunistic digital merchandising. I had the privilege along with 4 other colleagues from our Project Closing team to help Massive Entertainment - A Ubisoft Studio for a while to ship this game. Many learnings, like: 1) How to collaborate with franchise owner Lightstorm Entertainment & James Cameron to not only adapt but co-craft with minutia a worthwhile expansion of the movies 2) Central role of technology to materialize such an ambitious vision for world-building. First reviews and players impressions are out, and they are unanimous about this product becoming a new visual benchmark, our studios' success to create new regions of Pandora that are believeable, and an immersive experience full of "wow" moments that is truly complementing the movies. Kudos to all the codev studios as well, Ubisoft Blue Byte GmbH, Ubisoft Romania, Ubisoft Montpellier, Ubisoft Shanghai, Ubisoft Toronto, Ubisoft Ukraine Studios, Ubisoft Leamington and all the other teams at Ubisoft who contributed, as well as Lightstorm Entertainment, The Walt Disney Company, Fox Corporation. #gaming #games #tech #avatar #ubisoft #disney

The gaming industry is becoming more mainstream and influencing popular culture in various ways. Here are two signs of how gaming terms and concepts are reaching wider audiences and creating new opportunities for brands. A movie centered around an NPC! - Anyone who's into gaming knows what an NPC is. A Non-Playing Character in games is one that is not controlled by the player or AI and is simply populated to add character to the environment or at times these could be important pieces in the gaming experience. Free Guy brought this NPC to limelight by making it the key protagonist in the movie! "NPC" as part of Gen Z lingo - I was zapped when I heard my daughter use the word to describe people/friends who she knows and bumps into regularly but have no significant impact on her in any way! What is more surprising is that she's not even into gaming! Subtle but sure signs that gaming is making an inroad into popular culture and becoming part of our everyday life. While these signs might not seem a direct relevance to brands, when you layer this with data that suggests gaming worlds are becoming a potential space for the youth to hangout, interact and get entertained, we realize there is a play there. The historic challenge for brands was large-scale adoption of 3D gaming by a wider non-gaming audience. These are early signs that things might be changing.
