For this year’s Patient Safety Day, Jono Broad explored the importance of elevating patients’ voices and how effective we are in the UK at achieving the WHO’s patient safety aims. "The simple fact is that when it comes to safety, we need to think not only of the easy quick fixes, but also of directly engaging with patients to help them understand care, engage with the delivery of care and allow them to take responsibility for their care." Very interesting event! At the 2024 Summit, Chile posed the challenge of delving into how the different States have managed to implement, develop and give sustainability to different strategies with the purpose of delivering safe health care, facilitating the framework of the seven strategic objectives of the Global Patient Safety Action Plan, exchanging experiences on lessons learned in the design and implementation processes, the results obtained and future challenges, in order to translate them into national commitments that imply concrete actions. more info in https://lnkd.in/gN3A6W3s

I've been overwhelmed already today not just by the diversity of international interest and engagement in #WorldPatientSafetyDay but the absolute focus, this year, on patient and family involvement in the provision of safe care. Finding ways in which we can involve patients and families in the care they need has always been important; finding ways to involve them in the SAFETY of that care is quite different. There is huge focus on this vital mission within the #NHS embedded in the #LFPSE and #PSIRF frameworks now firmly under way in England, and similar pieces of work are under way globally. Healthcare technology has a pivotal role to play in supporting the success of these endeavours - but the key to unlocking their full potential rests with human factors, role modelling and leading by example. Put simply, healthcare culture - and thereby safety - depends entirely upon the people doing the healthcare. Policies, solutions, documents, reports and the like lose their meaning and impact unless and until the people writing and using them believe and understand in the 'why' not the 'how'. On this World Patient Safety Day, let's all recommit to doing all we can to make this cultural shift happen. It needs every one of us.
RLDatix is observing World Patient Safety Day in support of the World Health Organization's mission to advance patient safety as a global health priority. This year, WHO is emphasizing the importance of engaging patients to improve care outcomes. We spoke with two leading physicians and safety specialists — Dr. Tim McDonald, RLDatix Chief Patient Safety & Risk Officer, & Dr. Darren Kilroy, RLDatix Medical Director — for their insights and recommendations on how we can empower healthcare teams to foster a culture of safety that centers patients and their families.
