No Such Thing as a 'Useless' Qualification As a soon-to-be PR graduate, I 've often heard people say that Public Relations qualification is useless or ' What can you do with a Public Relations Qualification?' I have heard it from people close to me and even those who are already in their remote of work. Truly speaking, in my first year, I wanted to change to a different qualification. Its was unfortunate that people underestimate Public Relations, to a point of calling it useless, and even more unfortunate to me since I enrolled in it 😥. I remember telling my previous high school teacher that I am studying Bachelor of Commerce in Law 😅. She was so happy for me, very happy that she wanted to share the news with her students. I am now in my final year of studying, and all Ican say is that my mindset have changed. I realised how amazing Public Relation is, and how fortunate i was to have been enrolled and accepted in it. If i was asked to share what kind a of qualification I was doing, I will proudly share that ' I am a Public Relation Student' . In this 21st Century , where anyone can get their big break, achieve their dreams and even get their dream job through mass media. I can safely go back to my high school teacher and come to clean about my qualification. I have the confidence to even share how I lied to her in the first place. I have realized that every qualification has value, and every field is important. Its time we break down the stigma surrounding " less traditional" qualifications and recognizing the diverse strength they bring. Each an every qualification, helps us develops unique skills and perspective that can be applied in various ways. PR is about building relationships, managing reputation, and communicating effectively. Its a Vital function in every organization. To every students, especially matric students , who are considering their future careers. Choose a qualification that you're passionate about, that resonates with you, and that will help you grow into your best self. Every qualification has its purpose and value! 💡 #NoUselessQualification #DiversityinEducation #PublicRelation

I have to chuckle at these editing positions that state in their job description, "You have to have graduated from a top [5 or 30] university to help students with their applications to these schools. No exceptions." Hi. 👋 I have nine years of experience teaching and providing writing feedback to hundreds of the very students you are trying to help get into college. 🩺 🏥 I've also assisted medical school and residency applicants in gaining acceptance to some of these schools in the past three years. And yet I know I will be rejected from these jobs, as I have before. So why do I continue to apply? I think these companies are ultimately looking for unicorns with strong, diverse connections to the universities. Still, I want to challenge the idea that these job postings don't necessarily declare but nevertheless contribute to: ❌ That a "good" education or good opportunities or "real talent" only come from these top universities. This view isn't helpful; it's divisive and false. I didn't attend top-rated universities for any of my degrees, but I had terrific opportunities at all three. Back when I was a baby grad student, even then I knew that by choosing Wayne State, I would be choosing Detroit as part of my identity. It's the first degree on my resume, and I have so many community experiences there that it became a part of me. However, I've also had interviewers and students judge me because of where I earned my education, and I've had to address deep-seated bias. All this is to say: I know my education and experience matter, and yours do, too. #highereducation

Why is hands on experience more valuable than a degree outside of legal and medical fields? In a college degree program, a student takes up to two full years of career relevant courses. The other two are spent on general education courses, electives, and other various required courses by the college itself. A college degree indicates up to 2 years of relevant experience. Someone like me who has no degree but has 4 years of experience is more likely to be able to achieve goals and metrics because we know how the actual process of the job works. This isn’t just for marketing which is my specialty. This can apply to business, economics, political careers, and more. Next time you’re looking at candidates or looking to hire, look at 2 years hands on experience as being the equivalent of a degree. That’s the likely amount of time someone with a bachelors degree has spent learning their specific career field.

Hiring insight for anyone looking to add to their team... Why do suitable candidates who are interested in your vacancy and potentially perfect for the role, not apply to your adverts? There are a bunch of potential reasons for this... ⌛ lack of time to follow through with an application 🤔 save it for later and by the time they go back the deadlines gone 😵 They aren't sure if it's right for them ❌ The adverts written poorly 🤷♀️ They haven't seen it so don't know about it 🐶 The dogs ate their mobile phone before they could hit submit I could go on but I'd run out of emojis! This is why proactive search is so important and helps to make sure you attract the best talent. If you have a passion for teaching and believe you'd be a valuable contribution to BTS and Bolton College, please get in touch... And if you don't get in touch, I most likely will anyway 😀 #embracegrowthtogether #jobopportunity #hiring Bolton Talent Solutions https://lnkd.in/evyNsGWq

It is the 4th of September, and I promise you, no one prepares you for the amount of work required post-graduation. And I don’t mean the work you get paid for in your field. (I wish I had that right now.) I mean, the work you have to do to land the job. It has been four months since I earned my Bachelor of Science in Public Relations from Florida A&M University, and this job market is difficult, to say the least. There are so many “entry-level” positions that require 3-5 years of experience. How is that entry level? After tailoring resumes to specific job descriptions and roles to finally scoring an interview, only to get ghosted by the company…? It is very tiring, disheartening, and crushing. I worked so hard to earn both of my degrees. During my final semester when getting my A.A., I took five classes. In my last semester for my B.S., I managed nine classes while still maintaining a 3.6 GPA. I am more than eager to work in public relations, journalism, and communications. I know I have what it takes to perform well and to gain success in the journalism arena, and I don’t want to be counted out. I hope and pray that there are companies that are willing to recognize my creativity, potential, and work ethic in the coming days. My resume and experience are not minuscule—I am worth a salaried position.

Expressions of Interest- get The Oxford Connection/Recruitment Method… Research suggests that the most desirable job candidates come from within our own professional networks. The more (you and) ‘your staff’ share ‘your job’ out to your valued connections, the greater chance of you working with an amazing (likeable) superstar. This system is used by Oxford and it works very well. It is called ‘The Academic Connection’, and we have adapted it for you, your institution and your job (and all universities and colleges). So, let’s get to it… DO YOU WANT TO USE ‘The Academic Connection’ technology? All you need is to log in and: ▪ type in a few great connections ▪ a neat little message will be sent to them ▪ and even they can send it on to their great colleagues ▪ Note: this message talks about ‘Your University’ as a great university to work for, and that your department has a great job opportunity. It does not promise anyone a job. The system engages your valued ‘University Brand Ambassadors’, and they (and our system) assists you to FIND YOUR BEST. ‘The Academic Connection’ is a game changer Jarrod.
