The data is clear: the homelessness response system needs more resources to effectively address the scale of the housing affordability crisis.  Ending homelessness is possible. But elected officials need to sustain robust investments in housing-first solutions to homelessness. A quick reflection: I remember reading the "State of Homelessness Report" as an undergraduate student trying to learn about low-income housing and homelessness in Philadelphia. While it is disappointing that the data in this report is less reassuring now than it was ten years ago, I know now more than ever that we can end homelessness. Co-authoring the 2024 Edition was a tremendous effort and privilege. Thank you to my colleagues for all of the support throughout this process! National Alliance to End Homelessness

I’ve been experiencing chronic homelessness. I’m not “un-sheltered”… instead I’m trapped in a cycle of spending 70-90% of income on just renting a hotel room/Airbnb… Why!? Because my family “makes too much money for assistance…” but “not enough for 3X the monthly rent”… Additionally, charities require you to get to the point of an actual eviction notice. Which is extremely dangerous. Because, just like in my family’s situation, when they failed to help us they now added more barriers to housing that we cannot overcome. Now we have an eviction on our record. No one will rent to us.
