UCSF Pediatrics’ Post

UCSF Pediatrics reposted this

Early in the pandemic, some kids were hospitalized with a mysterious disease called MIS-C (multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children). A team led by Aaron Bodansky, Mark Anderson, and Joseph DeRisi has discovered how mild COVID led to MIS-C: the immune system mistook a human protein for a part of the viral N-protein, leading to devastating autoimmune symptoms. The findings hint at what might go wrong during other autoimmune diseases like #MultipleSclerosis. https://lnkd.in/gDVr4XWD Chan Zuckerberg Biohub Network | Boston Children's Hospital
