"If we’re going to make a dent in this crisis, we have to start as early as possible. Fifty percent of adult mental health disorders start before the age of 14, but we put most of our effort and our dollars into older children and into adults, and we’re not focusing on where we can make a difference with early intervention and prevention. I’m so passionate about that, both where the industry should be focusing, but also educating parents so that they know the signs so they can advocate for what their children need and what they need." -Helen Egger MD To learn more about how Little Otter is reimagining our approach to the mental health crisis, listen to Episode 85 of The Healthcare Leadership Experience: https://lnkd.in/e3xzAvSE SpendMend #healthcareleadership #mentalhealth #patientcare #pediatricmentalhealth #qualitycare #familycenteredcare

TO-DO : Helping them feel in control Give them tasks to do, like keeping their room clean, washing dishes, or making cards to empower them. Helping them feel secure Maintain a routine, and encourage them to get enough sleep, eat well, and be physically active. Helping them manage stress Check in with them regularly to see how they are doing, and to answer any questions they have. You can also help them learn to recognize the feelings of others. Helping them cope Consider joining a support group for families who have been through similar experiences. There are also camps for children with family members who have a serious illness. Getting support for yourself Ask for help from your pediatrician, social worker, or mental health provider. You can also reach out to your faith community or any other available supports. Helping them at school School counselors, psychologists, and social workers can help with social skills, coping strategies, and managing medical issues at school. The future of our children depends on our actions. Shocking report on children's #mentalhealth. With opportunities for #children to #play #outdoors being squeezed, it's sadly unsurprising. We must prioritise #play as vital to children's #health, development & #wellbeing. #PlayMustStay #EqualPlay
It's shocking to see so many children being referred to mental health services because they have reached crisis point. My new report details how over a quarter of a million children still waiting for mental health support. ⬇️⬇️ https://lnkd.in/dDtprDje
