To all of my first responder students. Important to know there is help and zero stigma for being in a human body needing to cope with what you have witnessed. Organizations like the one below give valuable tools to improve your life and health span, without the need for something external to help you cope. Please check them out.

According to the Department of Veterans Affairs, substance abuse is a significant problem among military veterans. Many veterans struggle with substance abuse, which can lead to a range of physical, emotional, and social issues. Fortunately, there are many resources available to help veterans overcome addiction and regain their health and well-being. One of the most effective forms of treatment for veteran substance abuse is specialized rehab programs explicitly designed for military personnel. These programs offer a range of services, including counseling, therapy, and peer support, all tailored to veterans' unique needs and experiences. By providing a safe and supportive environment, these programs can help veterans overcome the challenges of addiction and create a solid foundation for long-term recovery. Other resources available to veterans include support groups, community outreach programs, and medical treatment for any underlying physical or mental health conditions that may be contributing to substance abuse. Although the published numbers vary, it is believed that 23% of veterans and active service members who have deployed to a combat theatre of operations suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) If you or someone you know is struggling, remember you're not alone. What is Proposition 1 and why are people talking about it? In all, more than 10,000 Veterans are experiencing homelessness in California. More than half of those unhoused Veterans suffer from some kind of behavioral health issue. #Prop1 is a measure on the March 2024 California ballot that will refocus existing funds to prioritize Californians — including our #Veterans — with the deepest mental health needs, those living in encampments, and those suffering the worst substance abuse issues.
