ICON week 2024 Huge thanks to all the maternity, neonatal and health visiting staff for promoting the message to parents and carers Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust Top tips for staff when discussing ICON with families and carers. Remind parents that: 👶🏾All babies are different, all babies cry and you can get through it. 👶Crying often increases around 2 weeks and peaks at 6 weeks, but remember this phase will pass. 👶🏻There are many ways to soothe a baby-refer to the leaflet on the ICON website. 👶🏿If you are finding it hard to cope, it's okay to step away for a few minutes, as long as the baby is safe, until you are feeling calm. 👶🏾Create a comfort kit with your babies favourite items-soft toys, blankets, or calming books. 👶🏼Take a break and ask for help #ICONcope #ICON2024

Excellent recommendations from this task force in Louisiana. I hope the state listens and enacts these life-saving measures, including incentives to put more nurse midwives and advanced practice nurses to work, especially in those parts of the state where there are no practicing physicians. And in addition to these more clinically focused recommendations, there is also a role for an all-of-community approach to make birth safer. AIM CCI is such a model, recognizing that there are many touchpoints along the birthing journey that can have a positive impact on the outcome. It truly takes the village. These recommendations focus on saving moms and babies by working together for expanded access to care. We need a holistic approach which supports the entire state.
