#UHY colleagues recently had office team bonding with a trip to Comerica Park to cheer on the Detroit Tigers! Despite a little rain, spirits remained high as they cheered for their favorite players and enjoyed the ballpark atmosphere. It was a memorable afternoon of baseball, bonding, and making great memories.

https://lnkd.in/eEQD7gqJ This interview with Francisco Lindor of the Mets, after he broke up a no-hitter in the ninth inning two days ago, tying the game and leading to an eventual Mets' win, is an understated lesson in non-hierarchical leadership from a peer. I recommend viewing for the 3+ minutes to hear how: (1) The leader recognizes not his personal achievement, but how it contributed to the team goal: His homerun was "only big because we ended up winning." (2) The leader focuses on his teammates and their contributions, recognizing the team effort, and minimizing his individual performance. (3) Most poignant, the leader puts things in perspective. This game was on 9/11, and he shows that a leader recognizes that there is always something bigger than a "win," whether it be in baseball or business. On that solemn day, he recognizes first responders and "all the people who really do a hard job in life," saying: "My problems in baseball are Disney problems." Excellent, unintended and unscripted, lesson in leadership.

Ultimately they came up short in the playoffs, but what the Detroit Tigers were able to accomplish in the final eight weeks of the 2024 MLB season was astonishing. In August their win/loss record meant that the odds of them making the postseason were less than one percent. From there they embarked on a winning streak which saw them clinch a wild card spot on the final weekend of the season, the first time this has been achieved since 1973. What was behind this miraculous turnaround? A major reason was that August saw many of their best players return from injury. When Kerry Carpenter (back), Riley Greene (hamstring) and Parker Meadows (hamstring) were all healthy and back in the lineup, Detroit began to win. This was no coincidence. Detailed research into several different sports has identified a statistically significant relationship between player injuries and a team’s ability to win. Teams ranked with the fewest injuries have a greater likelihood of finishing higher in the standings, with the most successful teams often being those who keep their best performers available for selection for the greatest amount of time. “I’m not into baseball…Why would my company lease a Milwaukee Brewers suite?” 🤔 🔹It provides the opportunity to connect outside of the office and get away from the standard business lunch or typical networking event. #thinkoutsidethebox 🔸A premium experience for your clients and prospects shows you’re willing to go above and beyond for their business. #premiumexperience 🔹 Coming out to the ballpark is a Milwaukee favorite, but once you’re in the seats, you can only talk to the people you are seated next to. Being in a suite means you can have one-on-one time with everyone in your group. #priceless 🔸Being a suiteholder gives you access to exclusive experiences. (I know I’m not the only one who wants to go down Bernie’s slide or be a part of the famous sausage race!) #exclusiveexperiences 🔹There are several options for leasing. You don’t have to commit to every game! And if you just need one game, we offer rentals too. #flexibility Reach out anytime! DM me on LinkedIn 414-902-4208 Katie.Ragan@brewers.com

Congratulations Boston Celtics for your record breaking 18th Championship! You have given so much #joy to so many. There are many great lessons we can unpack from this. Lots will be written for years to come but a great article from the The Wall Street Journal covers the best bits this morning: 1. Selflessness. It was fitting that #JaylenBrown won the MVP and his acceptance speech was all about his teammates. 2. Systems beat superstars. The Celtics had three different top scorers in the final round, the Mavericks only had one. 3. Hard #math and a clear plan. Another great (Boston) #Moneyball example in action. 4. #Data points, not defeats. This has been a long time coming, many would say the Celtics were consummate chokers after so many close misses in recent years. These were just steps in a glorious research project. We may be seeing a dynasty being born. 5. #Distributed and flat teams. Throughout the season I saw so many players take the top score spot, there were games the bench came on and put a further 20points on a solid opponent in the second half. The reality is anyone on the team can score from anywhere, that tears open defenses and creates incredible #resilience. 6. #Everyonetakesshots, and lots of them. Everyone is empowered to go for it. The best example of this is the smallest player, #Pritchard, who came on just before half time and within seconds shot a buzzer beater from his own half. Pure class, pure joy. 7. #Trust in your teammates. Often players had a shot on but then passed into space and often in that magical “I’m not even looking” way. Like the NZ #AllBlacks, it is total trust in your teammates. 8. Played the long game, time arbitrage. There were so many decisions that led up to this over time. #compoundinterest 9. The best move isn’t the most obvious one or popular one. Many bold moves to trade stars out that built a better all-round team. https://lnkd.in/er5xxSyc
