An excellent video about economic violence and how the division of people drives all human violence. Supremacist ideology is driving humanity towards extinction. It doesn't have to be this way. https://lnkd.in/gQMTTHG9

Baffled by the collision of so many competing "newsworthy" events - mostly the juxtaposition of Barbie and Palestine. So here goes... Nominations for the 96th Academy Awards – the Oscars – were announced on January 23. That’s the biggest annual event in the film industry. This year, there was a feminist uproar because Barbie, the highest grossing film of 2023 was nominated for only (?!) eight awards – and did not include director Greta Gerwig or producer and lead Margot Robbie. At the same time, America Ferrera was nominated for best supporting actress – her first nomination. Still, western feminists flooded social media with criticisms. And feminists in the rest of the world were quick to counter their commentary with reminders that no, the greatest feminist tragedy of our time is not the Oscar nominations but rather the continued suffering – and killing – of Palestinian women. At the same time, the question of genocide itself is very much on the table. South Africa brought a case to the International Court of Justice against Israel because of the genocide they continue to perpetrate against Palestinians in Gaza. On January 26, the International Court of Justice announced its verdict: Israel must take measures to prevent acts of genocide – acts it is already clearly committing. The ruling fell short of calling for a ceasefire, but still represents a political victory and a reminder to Israel and its accomplices that we are all bound by international law. And genocide has been a crime under international law since at least the 1948 Genocide Convention. Because – in principle – we’ve learned from history. Or have we?! And then the next day, January 27, was Holocaust Remembrance Day, commemorating the victims of this horrible crime – six million Jews and many other minorities. This genocide of the Jewish people has not been forgotten. And we learned to say “never again” as a result… or so we’d hoped. That’s a lot of Big Things in a very small space. How are they connected?! Let’s be clear, with millions of women in Gaza under siege and bombardment with little-to-no access to sanitary hygiene products, anesthesia, or emergency obstetric services the occupation of Palestine is a feminist issue. Yet, mainstream media would have you believe that only one of these moments this past week is worth your attention. And it’s not Palestine... READ ON!

Why do people say that silence is complacence? Maybe you do not like to take sides or you are afraid of political backlash. 📢 But think, if there is fear of political backlash for speaking up against oppression, human rights abuse and war crimes then isn't something really fundamentally wrong?? And doesn't that warrant the need to speak up even more? 🤔 Or maybe you have doubts on the facts because of all the 'misinformation'. That's okay, just read the damning reports below that are incontestable. 💔 See genocide does not happen if everyone condemns it. For it to happen, there has to be a large voice supporting it, as we know from WWII and many other past conflicts. The problem is that only when it is over, everyone condemns it and recognises it. But that does not reverse the atrocities that were committed. So if your neighbor or your employer or your family or your favorite artist is supporting the genocide but you FEEL something is wrong. Then don't supress that feeling. Don't ignore it. Don't try to stay out of it. Don't use the excuse of mis-information. Because NOTHING warrants the murder of 3,648 children (and counting). Stay informed: Amnesty International | Use of White Phosphorus | recent conflict https://lnkd.in/g_aUvadm Human Rights Watch | Apartheid and Persecution | published last year. https://lnkd.in/gch6Y-4z There's plenty more, you just have to look.

We Are Many - they are few…. Hoping all my friends and colleagues are safe and well after the horrific racist violence of the last few days. As we’ve already seen communities are likely to pull together as the grifters withdraw - but we all need to pull together, to support each other, stand up to racism. One cannot debate fascism - it has to be opposed and crushed. The government and police responses are clear and measured - but it will need a whole community response to heal. And mostly of course it requires white men to be active - as allies and as opponents to the racists. We see them at the football matches we go to, we see them on the TV, we see them in their suits poking the fires. We can’t just ignore them and hope they’ll go away. In most of Europe the populists and ‘far right’ are gaining traction - why would we be immune to the same challenges here. We also know how to beat them and importantly we know that it is our responsibility to stand up, to reach out to our friends and colleagues. Don’t be a Nigel, a Laurence or a Tommy - we are better than that. #NoPasaran

Difficult days like yesterday, in the USA, demand sober context and reflection. That’s sometimes tough to find in today’s media environment. I believe the most DVR’d “news” show in the world is still Fareed Zakaria ‘s GPS on CNN. Today’s episode features remarkable context and analysis from Ian Bremmer , Tim Naftali , and Evan Osnos , with Yale University ‘s Joanne Freeman, on the dangerousness of division, extremity in politics, and how we can think about this moment. I encourage giving it a watch. Ian’s quick take, below, is also useful, from GZERO Media I realize this is primarily a business forum - which is why this non-partisan, considered, deliberation is worth pointing out. Fareed Zakaria

Highly recommended viewing from Ian Bremmer (GZero, Eurasia Group), thanks to Bank of America. I thank God that Donald J. Trump is safe, with only a minor injury from the shooting that took place today. I offer my prayers for any innocent Citizens sitting in the audience, who lost their lives, or were critically wounded, because of this senseless act of violence. I am grateful to our US Secret Service Agents & other Law Enforcement Officers who protected Donald Trump as shots were fired. I am thankful to the FBI for their efforts at investigating this attempted assassination of Ex-President Donald J. Trump. There is no excuse, no justification, for political violence. My fellow American is not my mortal enemy merely because of their stance on tax policy or immigration. Those are issues we can debate, compromise on, and address by pursuing common goals. American Democracy was designed to prevent this type of violence and destruction. Our more perfect union is founded upon government by the people, for the people, and of the people, as determined by our vote & majority rule (not rule by AR-15 & .223 rounds). I agree, wholeheartedly, with Ian Bremmer; we need to see & hear BIPARTISAN condemnation of political violence. We need to see & hear BIPARTISAN examples of leadership grounded in communication, compromise, and collaboration. We need to see and hear BIPARTISAN leadership promoting the principles of democracy & service to Country. We DO NOT need to hear more demonization, from Republicans or Democrats. Anyone who casts blame for this assassination attempt upon a political opponent is just pouring oil onto a fire that they want to flare up. We need the Left and the Right, Conservatives and Liberals, Democrats and Republicans, to lead our Nation by reminding us all that we are a UNITED States of America.

Good summary and analysis.. It will only get worse - Until and unless #US will get electable presidents. Both candidates - grossly unfit to hold highest office. As said night before assassination attempt - Americans are expected to vote two mainly unelectable presidents. Whether on moral grounds, or ability to hold office in mental & physical strength required for the job, or much worse, the high risk posed to the free world - matters less. What matters is that this country may soon be lead into a major crisis and a solution must be found. If not showing up to vote until the parties would come up with electable presidents would lead to a safer & better outcome - it should be considered and pursued rather than picking one of the two utterly terrible choices.
