“It is through working with the likes of the UK Agri-Tech Centre and Innovate UK that we’ve been able to access the growers, engineers and biologists that we need to develop and build our first prototypes of this technology. We’ve been able to expand our testing and generate the data to prove our claims and show the impact we can have at scale due to this support.” The UK Agri-Tech Centre's member, LettUs Grow’s ultrasonic aeroponic technology irrigates plant roots with a nutrient-dense mist, enhancing oxygen supply to the root zone and supporting greater respiration and nutrient uptake efficiencies versus traditional hydroponics. The technology has demonstrated an acceleration of crop growth by up to 22% compared to hydroponic systems. Starting with small-scale applications, LettUs Grow has scaled its technology through their aeroponic rolling benches, targeting international greenhouse and vertical farming markets. A series of trials were conducted at the UK Agri-Tech Centre’s Vertical Farming Development Centre, at Stockbridge Technology Centre, to compare aeroponic rolling benches against conventional hydroponic ebb and flood benches. Researchers in Sweden have developed a revolutionary method for hydroponic farming that uses electrically conductive "soil" to dramatically boost plant growth. This "eSoil" stimulates plant roots with a low-energy electrical current, leading to a surge in growth without the need for high voltage or harmful chemicals. The early results are promising, especially for crops like barley that aren't traditionally grown hydroponically. This new technology has the potential to be a game-changer for agriculture, particularly in areas with limited land or harsh environments. While more research is needed, eSoil could be a big step towards a more efficient and sustainable future for farming.🌱 By: Menuka Nuwanjalee - 4th year 📙Reference https://lnkd.in/g5J_DeGZ #AgriFutureFocus #TogetherWeBloom #BOTSOC

GrowPura – a UK technology company looking to grow things differently 🚀 👉 One company is challenging the stacked approach favoured by the early #verticalfarms. New AG International spoke to GrowPura’s Executive Chairman Nick Bateman to learn about the company’s different type of vertical farming design and technology. By designing a vertical farm differently, you could reduce the number of LED lights required, and in turn lower the energy consumption. GrowPura has a number of special differences, involving continuous movement of the crop including vibration to improve product uniformity. The March/April issue of the New Ag International Magazine focuses on vertical farming and its continuous role in revolutionising food production ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eR8hEPqJ #growth #innovation #agtech #verticalfarming

🌱 Future of Vertical Farming: Insights from Recent Research 🌞 I want to thank Leo Marcelis for shedding the light on this, which I want to share some key findings from recent research on vertical farming systems (VFS). The study highlights the potential of dynamic climate control in VFS, allowing us to fine-tune growing environments based on real-time sensor data and AI-driven models. This approach not only enhances crop development but also reduces energy costs by aligning growth cycles with fluctuating electricity prices.⚡️ 💡With the ability to adjust conditions such as light and humidity in response to plant needs, vertical farming is set to become more sustainable and cost-effective. 🥼However, the research stresses that more experimentation is needed at canopy scale to fully optimize these systems. The future of VFS lies in a continuous loop of crop monitoring, dynamic environment adjustments, and trait selection, paving the way for improved resource efficiency and product quality. This dynamic approach could revolutionize how we grow food, making agriculture more adaptable and resilient. Thanks to the main author Elias Kaiser, all co-authors for their dedication and great work. Full research below https://lnkd.in/e47AcN2U #Sustainability #Innovation #VerticalFarming
