UK Artificial Intelligence Worldwide Leadership’s Post

Can you think of a person who impacted you deeply—a coach, a parent, a boss, a friend? Imagine them and their lasting influence. When you reflect on how they inspired you, it will likely be as a result of your unique shared understanding, relational chemistry, and connection. They are special to you because of your history of interpersonal interaction, because of how they saw and responded to you in a thousand connected moments, because of the reciprocal interplay between your two human spirits. No matter what the futures holds, this rings true: The more omnipresent machines become in our lives, the more differentiating it will be for us to lean into our humanity as we engage with the world as leaders, teachers, friends, and family members. As helpful as AI can be, we cannot be “artificial” in any way in our leadership; we must be authentic—true to ourselves and true to the people with whom we live and work. With all of this as background, we’ve been contemplating this question: How does the fundamentally human craft of leadership evolve in a changing business landscape that is increasingly dominated by the conversation around AI? In our internal discussions at ConantLeadership, we kept returning to this same central concept: We can rely on AI as an aid in the development of our craft. AI can help us ask better questions, and it can undoubtedly help us improve our leadership thinking. But it’s still up to us to answer the call. In the interest of using AI to spark dialogue, we created our new series: EQ Answers to AI Questions. We consider a question posed by AI and then offer a thoughtful, human answer. Here’s my latest book recommendation: Harvard Business Review’s "On AI," which I started reading during my last flight. It’s an insightful collection of articles, perfect for anyone interested in the future of business and technology. The book demystifies artificial intelligence, showing how it can enhance decision-making, streamline processes, and drive innovation across various industries. What stood out to me the most is how it positions AI not just as a technical tool but as a catalyst for developing a digital mindset that can strengthen strategic advantages. It covers practical applications, ethical concerns, and the steps leaders need to take to prepare their workforce for an AI-driven future. I highly recommend this read for leaders looking to thoughtfully integrate AI into their organizations. A great advantage is that you can go through the articles at your own pace, allowing you to take breaks as needed to check emails or even watch a movie during your flight. 📈 Is Gen AI the Key to Your Competitive Edge? After spending a day immersed in AI discussions at a recent conference, I couldn’t help but pick up the Sept-Oct 2024 edition of Harvard Business Review at Whole Foods Market. The title "Embracing Gen AI at Work" immediately caught my eye, and for good reason—generative AI (Gen AI) has been a hot topic with my clients for the last month and a half. A particularly interesting takeaway I flipped to: a Gallup/Bentley University survey revealed that 79% of respondents don’t trust businesses to use AI responsibly. This speaks volumes about the skepticism surrounding AI. As leaders, it’s our responsibility to provide clear communication and transparency on how AI will be used—especially as it continues to evolve.
