Chamber colleagues were invited to attend the P&O Ferries Liberté naming ceremony last Friday. Liberté is set to be the world's largest double-ended hybrid ferry. Our CEO, Rhett Hatcher, at the ceremony, complimented the industry's advancements and said "the P&O Ferries Liberté is evidence that the #shipping industry is committed to using the latest technology and providing customers with the greenest choice to further reduce #carbon footprint on journeys from Dover to Calais and remove turns in #ports." We congratulate P&O Ferries and wish the vessel every success. 🎊🍾🛳

Further strengthening our customer offering on all routes
Irish Ferries is pleased to announce it has signed a space charter agreement with P&O Ferries on the Dover – Calais route. This agreement will encompass both freight and passenger space sharing on both parties’ vessels. We expect the agreement to come into effect for our freight customers during this Summer. When implemented, our freight customers will benefit from the advantages of a turn up and go service. This will then be followed on a phased basis for our passenger business. The agreement will result in greater flexibility and more choice for all our customers. While the space charter agreement means that capacity is shared so that customers will have more frequent sailing options, all commercial activities remain entirely under the control of each operator.

BREAKING NEWS: For the second year in a row, Florida’s system of seaports experienced record-high cargo growth and set a new record-high number of cruise passenger embarkations, a new report from the FSTED shows. For 2023, Florida’s seaports handled 114.25 million tons of cargo, shattering the 2022 record-high 112.5 million tons of cargo moved. Plus, 19.4 million cruise passengers set out on embarkations. As we celebrate an incredibly successful summer cruise season in Australasia, CLIA Managing Director Joel Katz highlights in Cruise Weekly how the association is working hard to ensure our industry continues to thrive in years ahead. In partnership with our cruise line members, we’re pursuing a busy program of advocacy initiatives as we work to strengthen our cruise community and build support among governments and stakeholders. We see opportunities to improve border processes, modernize passenger processing, and broaden the range of ports able to welcome international arrivals. We are working to improve regulatory processes and reduce costs in what is an expensive part of the world to operate. And we are continuing to lobby for cohesive cruise strategies that take the whole cruise ecosystem into account and examine long-term needs in areas like infrastructure and port facilities. Most importantly of all, we are working to ensure the cruise industry is at the table as Australia and New Zealand establish their maritime emissions strategies, as part of our commitment to reach net zero emissions by 2050.
