With Government consulting on copyright and AI, it is vital the songwriters, artists and music companies at the heart of our £7.6 billion industry are protected. We have been speaking with Government and the media to ensure this message is heard loud and clear. This weekend, we supplied comments from our Chief Executive Tom Kiehl to the BBC, who was quoted alongside Sir Paul McCartney, as the Beatles' legend claimed creators are at risk of being “ripped off” by AI companies. You can read Tom and Sir Paul’s comments here: https://lnkd.in/e7RVv88N We also outlined our vision for what is required to protect artists in an exclusive Music Week article from Tom Kiehl here: https://lnkd.in/e83zvpmB In a special meeting in Westminster, six APPGs came together to discuss the subject, with Tom voicing our concerns over the current Government consultation. You can read what he had to say here: https://lnkd.in/e_UNf5y3 And this week, we published an insightful Q&A with UK Music experts Florian Koempel and Dougie Brown explaining what the Government’s plans for AI could mean for the industry. Protectionism is secondary to binding rights agreements to list songwriter names with their work, to verify royalty stream is correct and in good practice. Sign for good https://chng.it/WgHkCKN8SF
Head of Vibeyness: Artist Development, Production and Songwriting
1wThe UK Gov could of enforced the law when Spukify uploaded the entire music catalogue! Then conspired with the majors to rip off all the songwriters, In my opinion, that was against copyright law! . Perhaps the UK gov can be arsed now 'cos they think they can get some backhanders out the AI companies? I'm not holding my breath. I remember when if my song was played on BBC Radio One I would get 300 quid.. Now I get 55 million streams a week sometimes on co-writes, and productions etc and it doesn't even cover my electric bill... But you don't have to look very far to see who has all the money! UMG, BMG the majors etc and Smaug the Egk headed toad slithering over Spukify mountain... The revenue that trickles to me is so small I’d rather scrub all the songs I’ve ever worked on from the internet than let the major labels continue making millions off them. Yes! to be honest I REALLY WOULD rather take it all back than let them parade it around and gorge themselves on it. If I were able to pull that off — wipe every record I ever worked on from the major labels — it would amount to a loss for them - Total Revenue (Records + Streaming): $9.94 billion straight away, and a Total Annual Loss: $100.26 million per year!
