New England states collaborate on ambitious plans to enhance grid reliability and clean energy access! A coalition of states has submitted applications for federal funding to support large-scale transmission and energy storage projects, aiming to unlock renewable energy potential and strengthen grid resilience across the region. These initiatives, in partnership with Elevate Renewables and AEIC member National Grid, align with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)'s Grid Innovation Program (GRIP) to fund projects leveraging advanced technologies for grid resilience. The applications prioritize community benefits, workforce development, and equity, aligning with DOE's goals to support disadvantaged communities in energy infrastructure development. #ICYMI: Earlier this year, U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) released a preliminary list of potential National Interest Electric Transmission Corridors (NIETCs), areas where people have or are expected to have insufficient electricity transmission. If you are a landowner, you may have questions about potential impacts near you. To help answer those questions, the Grid Deployment Office (GDO) has resources available to explain the designation process and how it works. The four-phase process was created to ensure there is ample time for public engagement and environmental review before any final designation(s). Learn more: https://lnkd.in/eDrpAWnN

The UK government announced in September the designation of data centres as critical national infrastructure (CNI), putting them on equal footing with vital services such as water, energy and emergency systems. However, if the opportunity presented by this high growth sector are to be realised, there are a number of challenges that will need to be overcome. According to Diarmaid Connolly, Director of Cost Management at Linesight, strategic planning and investment are essential to tackle these issues. The UK can look to Nordic countries for inspiration, wwhere they emphasise renewable energy and efficient power management, to build a sustainable and scalable data centres of the future.
