A new study published in the BMJ this week showed that exercising for at least a week before surgery could halve the risk of complications experienced by patients. The research on more than 15,000 people undergoing operations suggests that boosting activity levels and eating healthily in the run-up to surgery could have a powerful effect. Speaking to the Daily Telegraph, our CEO, Huw Edwards, said: "Prehabilitation programmes in gyms and leisure centres are helping people across the nation to improve their fitness for treatment and their mental state, which cannot be underestimated. “If the Government invests in growing these programmes, we can reduce NHS waiting lists, free up beds and help people return to healthy, pain-free lives, which would be a win for the economy too.” Read the full story below: https://lnkd.in/dUVHRCbm
