NEW GOVERNMENT DRIVING TALKS TO BOOST ECONEMY... Business and Trade Secretary Jonathan Reynolds has announced a new push for international trade talks, focusing on key partners including the Gulf Cooperation Council, India, Israel, South Korea, Switzerland, and Turkey. This initiative aims to deliver high-quality trade deals that will boost the UK economy, create jobs, and enhance global market access for British businesses. With the UK being the world’s 4th largest exporter in 2022, this strategy is set to capitalize on the global demand for British goods and services. The government will also unveil a comprehensive trade strategy aligned with its industrial goals, supporting economic growth, job creation, and net zero ambitions. By resetting relationships with global partners and removing barriers to trade, the UK is positioning itself for a stronger economic future. “The Belt and Road Initiative is going to be absolutely transformative in how people view and do business. It will bring a lot of people together who currently are trading at such a high rate. Additionally, there'll be an increasing amount of culture exchange among the Belt and Road partner countries,” Clare Pearson, International Development Director (Asia) at DLA Piper, told our reporter at the Belt and Road Summit. Between 2018 and 2023, trade between China and Belt and Road countries grew from $1.9 trillion to $2.8 trillion, with an average annual growth rate of 8.1%, and the share of trade increased from 40.6% to 46.6%. Clare Pearson remarked that over the past decade, China has evolved from a country with relatively underdeveloped high-speed rail infrastructure to one with a nationwide rail network, including a significant amount of high-speed rail, which is an extraordinary achievement. Nowadays, China is extending its high-speed rail and highways to Belt and Road partner countries, which will not only strengthen trade relations between China and these countries but also contribute to their domestic economic development.

Queensland values its relations with Vietnam and considers the nation a priority market in Southeast Asia. Trade and Investment Queensland’s Chief Executive Officer, Justin McGowan, affirmed this stance. Queensland focuses on implementing the Southeast Asia Economic Strategy to 2040 and the Queensland Trade and Investment Strategy to 2032. They consider Vietnam as the top priority market in Southeast Asia and one of their top five international trade partners. The collaboration aims to enhance trade, investment, and people-to-people exchanges between the two regions. The strengthened collaboration between Australia’s Queensland and Vietnam, with a focus on trade, investment, and people-to-people exchanges, is undoubtedly positive for both nations. The New UK Government drives forward trade talks to turbocharge economic growth. Trade Secretary Jonathan Reynolds MP set to deliver trade negotiations with international partners. A trade agreement with the Gulf Co-operation Council would be a substantial economic opportunity, with at least £19 billion total already invested in each other’s economies as of 2021. An agreement with the #GCC could potentially boost this further, ensuring British companies can make the most of this booming market and British customers get even more choice. as always the devil will be in the detail.
