People respond to incentives. Payers (employers, employees -- especially unions, and the government) need to insist that the hospitals, insurance companies, PBMs, and biopharmaceutical companies prioritize patient health. They should insist that these companies tie executive incentives to health outcomes, not financial performance, to get the payers' business. It is perverse that healthcare executives earn magnificent salaries for delivering abysmal health outcomes, and absurd that payers put up with it.

We are investing more money to improve quality, access and affordability of healthcare for our population. The latest Key Trends report reveals total public expenditure on health has increased by 84.9% since 2012. https://lnkd.in/exFm5mpJ

This is a staggering report consistent with reports from the past decade, yet we are doing little to address the issue. By any definition, this is a failing grade for our healthcare delivery system. Please see the key findings below and a screenshot worth 1,000 words. Key Findings: The top three countries are Australia, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom, although differences in overall performance between most countries are relatively small. The only clear outlier is the U.S., where health system performance is dramatically lower. Conclusion: The U.S. continues to be in a class by itself in the underperformance of its health care sector. While the other nine countries differ in the details of their systems and in their performance on domains, unlike the U.S., they all have found a way to meet their residents’ most basic health care needs, including universal coverage. Another great release of the "Implementing the primary health care approach: a primer" from World Health Organization many of us have been working in #PHC for years and understand the value and necessity of how a strong PHC system will benefit communities for the long-term. Financing a PHC system, will lead to improved health for the community.
