Strix and the Portuguese Air Force Sign Protocol for "Bird Safe" Project In a significant step forward for aviation safety, Strix and the Força Aérea Portuguesa | Portuguese Air Force proudly announce the signing of a protocol for the pilot project known as "Project Bird Safe". This pioneering initiative aims to drastically reduce the risk of bird strike incidents, a critical concern in aviation safety. "Project Bird Safe" focuses on the configuration and adaptation of the Birdtrack® system, an innovative approach designed to enhance safety during aircraft take-off and landing phases within the aeronautical environment. The project's goal is not only to mitigate the risks associated with bird strikes but also to set a new standard in aviation safety protocols. The collaboration between Strix and the Força Aérea Portuguesa | Portuguese Air Force marks a landmark moment in the commitment to aviation safety. By leveraging the advanced capabilities of the Birdtrack® system, "Project Bird Safe" aims to provide a safer flying environment for both military and civilian aircraft, thereby protecting wildlife and ensuring the safety of air operations. This protocol signifies a major step forward in the use of Birdtrack® technology to address long-standing safety challenges in aviation. Both parties express their commitment to the success of the "Project Bird Safe" pilot and to the future of safer skies. Chief Flight Instructor @ Ejercito Nacional de Colombia | Military Aviation, Operational Planning | Standardization | Instructor Pilot | IFR Examiner & Instructor | SOF SME | Auditor |
It is necessary to use all the military capabilities of Colombia to work hand by hand with the Unidad Nacional para la Gestión del Riesgo de Desastres (UNGRD) to combat and extinguish all the wildfires across the country, prevention, planification, anticipation are facts which take a key role. Joint & interagency operations have to be considered to ensure the maximum assets availability.
Four of the Colombian Police Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters have now been modified with 'Bambi Bucket' to extinguish fires. They can discharge 660 gallons of water, have a flight time of 2 hours and develop a maximum speed of 130 km/hour. #firefighting #aviation #helicopter

No matter what employers should be willing to keep skills sharp.
When I was still in the Navy I often had to deal with people who understood little about the world of helicopters, some even openly hostile to helicopter pilots. An episode that I will always remember was when I asked to have dedicated windows for ship landings qualification. My request was rejected and I was told that the pilots should have already been trained for that type of operation before even arriving on board the ship. In the end I had to make do with a few extra landings at the end of each mission... Doing more with less has become a mantra almost everywhere, this means that an organization may deem it appropriate and necessary to change rules and micromanage pilots to achieve its goal. Unfortunately, this kind of culture can create the conditions for accidents to happen. It is important to realize that some bad decisions are not made despite but because of inappropriate and short-sighted rules and procedures. #helicopter #helicopterpilot #CRM #aviationsafety #aeronauticaldecisionmaking

A major element of discipline when operating an aircraft is compliance with established rules and procedures that guide a pilot's performance of tasks. Therefore, good discipline in following rules and procedures will improve an individual's safety record.
Aviation industry and flyers can take lessons from this remarkable passenger discipline and exhibition of professionalism of the Japan Airlines crew during the evacuation from JL Flight 516 (A350-900/JA13XJ), that collided with an earthquake relief Coast Guard DHC-8 Dash 8 aircraft (JA772A) on January 2nd. All 379 passengers and crew members of the A350 escaped safely, No serious injuries reported. No passengers were seen carrying cabin bags in the process of evacuation, while sliding down. Airbus agrees record 44 H225 deal for German Federal Police missions Airbus Helicopters has agreed a record deal with the German Ministry of the Interior for up to 44 H225 helicopters for use by the country’s Federal Police. The agreement includes 38 firm orders with options for a further six helicopters. Deliveries are due to start in 2029. Bruno Even, CEO, Airbus Helicopters welcomed the opportunity to contribute to the security of Germany. “The Bundespolizei can look forward to a modern helicopter thanks to the continuous improvements we’ve made to our H225 in recent years. It will remain one of the most advanced helicopters available on the market for the decades to come,” he said. The new H225s will replace the H155 and AS332 helicopters that have been in service with the German Federal Police for more than 20 years. The H225’s payload, range and advanced systems make it suitable for a range of law enforcement and homeland security missions including firefighting, disaster relief and special forces transport, according to the manufacturer. The contract also includes training and spare part packages to ensure a smooth transition for pilots and maintenance personnel. The German Federal Police operates 94 Airbus helicopters. It seems like the issue is Clear Air Turbulence (CAT). CAT detection relies on pilot reports, weather forecasts, and some advanced onboard sensors. Despite the challenges in detection, effective communication and forecasting help mitigate the risks associated with CAT. Proposed Solution: LeObran Ltd suggests following solutions. 1- ICAO to mandate pilot-based weather debriefing, especially during bad weather conditions. 2- This process can be automated live through the addition of ADS-C with relevant data. 3- Artificial Intelligence base ATC/WX radars. Our condolences go out to the families and to those injured or deceased in this unfortunate event.
