I am, honestly, well chuffed at this, and it was a lovely evening thanks to New Civil Engineer. As I said last night, this is great recognition for the whole of the Net Zero Bridges Group, which has grown from five founding firms in 2021 to 37 member organisations today. If by some chance you don't know who we are and what we do, you can find out here: https://lnkd.in/e_N_zQEH I'll also take the chance again to thank the NZBG's executive committee and task group chairs for everything they contribute: Cameron Archer-Jones, Daniel Green, Chris Hendy, Ciarán Lynn, Ian Palmer, Clotilde Robin and Ben Sibert. And thanks also to all our members for their energy and enthusiasm: the value in a body like the Net Zero Bridges Group is all the platform it can provide for collaboration and collective action. The Group’s members have three things in common: we have publicly committed to address the climate and biodiversity emergency (see, for example, https://lnkd.in/eCUtpzV8); we want to understand how to reduce the carbon footprint of our work as bridge industry professionals; and we believe that we can do this better together than we could individually. As the climate crisis unfolds in slow motion, it is easy to put off decarbonisation, struggling with the sheer scale and difficulty of the challenge. We're all constantly tempted by the comfort blanket of business-as-usual, maybe hoping that we will be better placed to take action tomorrow. But we simply cannot afford to be climate crisis bystanders, hoping that someone else will step in. The value of a body like the Net Zero Bridges Group is that we can create and experience a strong sense of community interest, motivating us to share the burden, learn from each other, and advocate for collective action by others. I really do hope that in the years to come, this is just the first of many awards recognising the "outstanding contributions" that we might all hope to make in tackling the climate emergency.
The first award of the evening Outstanding contribution to the industry goes to Brian Duguid from Mott MacDonald who gave us an inspiring acceptance speech. #NCEBridges

I am looking forward to this insightful discussion on Emergency Response Planning in Maritime Safety. We will also explore how the core principles of emergency response transcend environments, be it on land or at sea. In my career, I've tackled significant challenges like Maritime Safety, Avalanche Mitigation and Wildfire Suppression, applying these experiences to enhance safety and response strategies. Together, we can turn challenges into stepping stones for safety and innovation. #EmergencyPreparedness #MaritimeSafety #WildfireSuppression #AvalancheMitigation #LeadershipInAction #OilAndGas #Mining

Have you ever considered the social impact of your cup of coffee? ☕ At the 9th SLCA Conference in Curitiba we created this video to explain and promote the use of Social Life Cycle Assessment (SLCA) in a relatable way for everyone! Next to quantifying the environmental impact of the products you consume it is very important to also consider the social impact along the value chain. While reducing your #footprint 📉 , think about increasing your #handprint as well! 📈 Counting impact, changing lives 🌍
📢 We are proud to present our video to promote 🗣️ #SLCA created during the #SLCA challenge side event at the 9th SLCA Conference Thanks Annabel Oosterwijk, Milena Pithon, Adrison Loreto, Larissa Landete for your great contribution! Counting impact, Changing lives 🌍

If you’re part of the construction industry in Newfoundland and Labrador, joining a board like the Newfoundland and Labrador Construction Association (NLCA) is more than just a seat at the table—it’s a platform to drive meaningful change. As someone actively involved in this sector, I’ve seen firsthand how board participation fosters collaboration, strengthens our industry, and provides invaluable networking opportunities. Here’s the thing: construction is about more than bricks and mortar. It’s about shaping communities and building a sustainable future. By joining the board, you can influence policies, share innovative ideas, and ensure our industry remains competitive and forward-thinking. You’ll also gain access to industry insights and the collective wisdom of other professionals who are just as passionate about the growth of Newfoundland and Labrador as you are. Whether you’re a seasoned leader or an emerging professional, board participation helps you grow, both personally and professionally. It’s a chance to give back to the industry, advocate for the people who drive it, and make a lasting impact. Let’s work together to build not just structures but a stronger, more resilient industry. Consider getting involved—you won’t regret it! -Derek
