For those who missed it... Allen Clemons came and chatted with the Real Estate Investment & Development Society yesterday! Here are a few of my takeaways: Embrace Every Role: Allen's path reminds us that starting in foundational roles, whether as a laborer or an analyst, is not just okay—it's invaluable. His early days, devoid of a large team, meant hands-on experience in accounting, estimating, and scheduling, shaping a well-rounded leader. Continuous Learning is Key: Allen's commitment to education, whether through obtaining a Commercial Real Estate (CRE) license or enrolling in Master classes, underscores the importance of continuous learning. Knowledge in financial models and marketing strategies are crucial tools for anyone aspiring to make their mark in development. Pathways to Development: For those eyeing a career in Development, Allen highlighted two avenues: joining a big firm to gain broad exposure or diving into hands-on experience with a boutique construction/development company. Thanks for making this happen Thayer Loose, Colten DeSpain, and Dallen Bush!

Enjoy our recent interview with Robert Lewis, Development Project Manager for Shift Capital's SouthWorks Ithaca development project (https://lnkd.in/dPF9Ar68). Questions: 0:05 - What opportunities and risks does your current project (i.e., SouthWorks development) present? 1:41 - You used to be on the City of Ithaca Planning and Development Board. Director of Community Action at Strong Towns, working to assist people in taking incremental actions to make their communities stronger.
I am humbled everyday when I learn of the incredible stories of the heroic work people are taking to make their communities stronger. Each of these stories begin with a humble observation and is followed with details of how they became an example of change for others. These are the stories that inspire me in the work I do. For each of these success stories, I also talk to another dozen people that feel stuck and alone in the struggles they face in their community. These are people at the beginning of their own hero journey. When I learn more about these stories I believe that they could benefit and overcome these challenges from coaching and an introduction to like minded peers. Until now, there was not an efficient way to address this critical need. I am excited to share that Strong Towns is taking a first step to address this struggle by offering the opportunity to receive coaching through the new Accelerator program. This is a unique opportunity to dive deep into our development patterns and the struggles each of us are facing as the result of the suburban development pattern. This is also the opportunity to get one on one time with experts like my friend Charles Marohn and the Strong Towns Team. If you are struggling with an issue in your community and want to learn how small bets can result in significant change, or you are ready to take the next smallest step to address a local struggle and need some guidance to grow your confidence, I would encourage you to sign up for the Strong Towns Accelerator Program. https://lnkd.in/gyRHEPb6
