We’re proud to present the City of Reno’s video annual report, showcasing some of the tremendous work happening behind the scenes. Under the direction and steadfast leadership of the Reno City Council, this video highlights how your tax dollars are being put to good use! Key Highlights include: 🚧 Infrastructure Improvements: 755 miles of roads maintained, major street rehab projects, and upgrades to public lift stations. 🏊♂️ Moana Springs Community Aquatics and Fitness Center: A new hub for health and recreation featuring a 50-meter competition pool. 🏘 Housing Assistance: A total of $3.2 million in rental aid was provided to 1,246 households, with 1,326 affordable housing units supported. 👮♂️ 👨🚒 Public Safety: The Reno Police Department launched the Directed Engagement, Enforcement, and Deployment Strategy program, also known as DEEDS, which is a data-driven initiative aimed at reducing crime and improving safety. Additionally, the Reno Fire Department responded to over 50,000 calls and Reno Dispatch answered over 500,000 calls. 🌳 Revitalization Efforts: Continued investment in downtown revitalization projects aimed at improving public spaces and attracting new businesses. BJH Principal Steven Jacobs, Pirie Associates Principal Laura Pirie, and Connecticut Main Street Center, Inc. Executive Director Michelle Lapine McCabe joined New Haven Economic Development Officer Malachi Bridges at the Southern New England American Planning Association conference in Springfield, MA this month to present their work for the City of New Haven: “Building Thriving Communities: A Playbook for Place-Based Economic Development." The New Haven Neighborhood Commercial Districts Playbook is a comprehensive road map and tool kit that strategically guides the City of New Haven in realizing the potential of city’s diverse range of neighborhood commercial districts (NCDs).

Last night’s town hall for the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center Dallas Master Plan gave residents of Council Districts 2 and 14 an update on the project by first peeling back the layers of how the project came to be and then providing information on what the public should expect moving forward. Big thanks to Council Member Jesse Moreno for answering my question on the impact that redevelopment will have on our unhoused population. Here are a few of my key takeaways: 1) Construction funding will not come from taxpayers. 2) Conversely, when completed, the revenue generated from visitors to the area will help to simulate the economy, both within downtown and across the DFW metroplex. 3) Construction of the buildings is just the first part of the vision to make this area a lasting source of connectivity, positive economic impact, and community engagement. Additional town halls are scheduled across the city and I encourage you to attend, ask questions, and participate in the process of transforming the Convention Center area into something that represents us all.
