Urban C:Lab Europe calls for a Design Sprint on:
Resilient Planning for Tourism
⛔ The Problem. Tourism has long been recognised for its potential to positively contribute to economic growth & development of host destinations. Nevertheless, the overdevelopment linked to overtourism, has been causing problems that try to be resolved by estimating the carrying capacity. This concept has been around since the 1960s but it falls short of addressing pressure on physical infrastructure, increased living costs or strain on local resources such as water, electricity and food. Furthermore, climate change-induced phenomena such as heat waves, floods, wildfires are altering the tourism landscape and presenting new challenges.
ℹ The Big Data approach. The assessment of those risks requires data, but local-level resilience data are often incomplete or captured by different stakeholders. Join us in the discussions about the unprecedented explosion in construction on the Greek Islands and the growing need for Data-driven Climate Resilient Planning for Tourism.
❓ The Question. How can we use FAIR Data (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) derived from global, national, and local databases to create user-friendly geo-analytics to help Local Authorities define management scenarios and boost community resilience?
💡 Let’s Talk! Hope to see you there as we try to bring together a Resilience Task Force to co-create a locally informed and data-driven Diagnostics Framework for Net positive tourism developments.
Join us as we discuss this topic further in a design sprint on April 24th at 5pm CET. Sign up via https://lnkd.in/eN53wAk8
The Urban C:lab Europe chapter invites you to join an online Design Sprint on their journey to uncover breakthrough propositions.
We've reached half time of the two year programme that provides a platform to think openly and freely about the future of the built and natural environment and its emerging challenges. The Europe cohort focused on 7 problem areas and gathered a lot of insights by connecting to experts. They now reached the point to shape propositions that offer new ways to solving the challenges.
Take part in the Design Sprint on April 24th at 5pm CEST and in small breakout groups help shape the emerging propositions on the themes below via open discussions.
Register here: https://lnkd.in/djeuKt88
Please note: The Design Sprints per theme run in parallel so you have to choose the topic you’d like to join in the registration process. The format is laid out to allow active participation from all participants, hence the number of participants per group is limited. Your participation will be confirmed after registration.
