This week's event in Vancouver shed light on the widespread challenge cities encounter in reaching net-zero carbon targets, mirroring CityAge Co-Founder Miro Cernetig's observation that ambitious goals pose significant hurdles. As he emphasized, "Vancouver is not alone in finding it’s extremely difficult to meet net-zero carbon targets. That’s always the case with aspirational goals. But what’s clear is the old ways of doing it aren’t going to work." Amidst this challenge, there's a palpable sense of optimism surrounding the potential of future technologies, such as AI, to drive decarbonization efforts in our rapidly evolving urban landscapes. In collaboration with Mustel Group, we embarked on a thorough investigation into public sentiment surrounding decarbonization in Metro Vancouver. The findings revealed robust resident support for decarbonization initiatives. However, lingering skepticism persists regarding our collective ability to meet ambitious emission targets. Next week is Adapt Unbound and Carbon Unbound in NYC. I will host three consecutive campfire sessions on cities and carbon removal. Join me as we dig into the massive opportunity of #CityCDR! Tuesday's session will focus on 'Building Resilient Cities: The Adaptation-Removal Nexus'. I will host the Wednesday and Thursday sessions with Nikki Batchelor from XPRIZE. We will shift the focus to cities as actors, looking at 'The Hidden Giant in CDR: Opportunities to Galvanise Cities'. The sessions are a chance to discover a new topic in carbon removal: the city as a driver of carbon removals. Key questions we will be discussing: ➡ Why should cities do CDR? ➡ What are their powers to act? ➡ Which pathways are most promising? ➡ How can CDR unlock other city priorities? Insights from the sessions will feed into an upcoming report from South Pole, XPRIZE and the Global Carbon Removal Partnership on pathways of engagement for sustainable cities in the area of CDR. It sets the stage for a wider effort involving C40 Cities, the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy (GCoM) and other partners to help cities advance removals for a net positive living environment. Watch this space! #CarbonRemoval #ClimateAdaptation #CityClimateAction #ResilientCities #NetZero #NegativeEmissions #CarbonSink

At CABN, our individual units work exceptionally well, but there is increased power when our units work together in a network. CABN Communities offer a new way for space making, leveraging building efficiencies while creating their own micro-grid– a perfect option in regions that are hard to reach, have aging infrastructure, or need quick community deployment. https://lnkd.in/gFkgTFi3

🌍 Explore Carbon Change Ltd.’s journey to a decarbonised future with Director Chris Asensio, as part of Space Scotland’s UK Space Agency’s Cluster Development Project. Chris delves into why understanding and reducing #CarbonFootprints 👣 is crucial, emphasising their significant role in influencing #ClimateChange. #CarbonAudits provide a hands-on approach by systematically assessing and analysing an organisation's carbon emissions across various activities and operations. To support the understanding of carbon footprints, eight organisations volunteered to partake in a pioneering program as part of Space Scotland’s UKSA Space Cluster Development project to deliver on some strategic #sustainability priorities. ♻️ In this project, organisations’ carbon footprints were collected and analysed, providing a baseline for the wider #SpaceSector and beyond. These efforts aim to empower the entire sector and those adjacent, making the measurement, management, and reduction of carbon footprints accessible to all. 🌎 📺 Watch Chris explain the Greenhouse Gas Protocol and explore Space Scotland’s UK Space Agency Space Cluster Development Fund project in more detail in his video: https://lnkd.in/dsMcB26v
