Another excellent conversation on Anchored from the Classic Learning Test. How are you teaching your students to disagree civilly?
On this episode of Anchored, Jeremy and Kimberly are joined by James Fishback, founder of Incubate Debate. The three discuss how debate programs in American public schools have devolved in recent years by stifling free and honest speech. They explore the merits of debate as a way to assess the long-term consequences of immediate ideas. They also lament the lost art of disagreeing civilly but point to Incubate Debate and other Christian debate leagues as necessary, encouraging solutions. Tune in now: https://lnkd.in/gx-CbeTq

Can the roots of today's political polarization be traced back to the wisdom of our founding fathers? Federalist Paper Number 10 by James Madison offers insights that resonate with the challenges we face in our current political landscape. Join host Charlie Jett on a historical exploration of Madison's arguments on factionalism and the importance of a unified government. Discover why Madison believed that factions, an inevitable part of human nature, could both endanger and enrich the fabric of democracy, and how a well-constructed federal system could temper their effects. In this episode of "Making of a Great America," you'll gain a deeper understanding of Madison's belief in the power of federalism and the critical checks and balances it provides. Madison's essay underscores the necessity of balancing diverse interests and maintaining a stable government, a message that holds powerful relevance today. As we unpack Madison's insights, we'll explore how his advocacy for a strong federal union acts as a safeguard against the tyranny of factions, and why his timeless arguments continue to influence the principles of governance in the United States. Sit back and immerse yourself in the enduring wisdom that shapes our nation. https://lnkd.in/eZVzzzBn

I talked with Max Borders about the ideas in his two-part essay series responding to Christopher Rufo’s recent manifesto “The New Right Activism.” We discussed the commentary form of the essays, pillar saints vs boy Pharoahs, the Gray Tribe, Rufo as a rockstar gladiator, the white-paper industrial complex, the Gramscian model of capturing the institutions, the tit-for-tat approach to politics, recapturing the power of the state to indoctrinate the youth, the wartime point of view, the means & ends problem, subversive innovation, the University of Austin, public universities as indoctrination factories, a Handmaid’s Tale vision of virtue, why Rufo is more Machiavellian than Aristotelian, the danger of rejecting an open society, changing the language & the case study of “equity,” defending abstract principles in politics, how Rufos misses the point about real power, re-enlivening the U.S.’s founding principles, and much more.

Modern society has undergone significant transformations over the years, leading to the emergence of various sociological concepts that aim to explain these changes. One such concept is “liquid modernity,” coined by the renowned sociologist Zygmunt Bauman. In this article, we will outline and explain the concept of liquid modernity and its implications for contemporary society. Defining Liquid Modernity Liquid modernity refers to a state of constant change and uncertainty in contemporary society. Bauman argues that traditional modernity, characterized by stability, predictability, and fixed social structures, has given way to a more fluid and flexible form of social organization. In this “liquid” state, everything becomes transient, disposable, and subject to rapid transformation. more information ~~》》 https://lnkd.in/eaiTdg6e more information ~~》》on YouTube https://lnkd.in/e_txn4FN Liquid Democracy ~~~》 》 more information on YouTube https://lnkd.in/eQ_Y8F9g
