Learning from Sonographer Interviews: Steps in Independent Ultrasound Technician Projects Hi everyone, I've recently had the opportunity to interview several sonographers to understand the detailed steps involved in completing an independent ultrasound technician project. Here are the steps I've gathered so far: 1. Patient Identification: - Identifying patients who need a vascular ultrasound. 2. Scheduling: - Managing appointments and coordinating with clinics. 3. Ultrasound Examination: - Conducting the ultrasound examination and capturing images. 4. Report Generation: - Documenting findings and generating preliminary reports. 5. Physician Review: - Having the preliminary reports reviewed and signed off by a physician. 6. Result Distribution: - Sending the finalized report back to the referring provider. 7. Referral Decision: - The referring provider deciding if the patient needs to see a specialist. 8. Insurance Billing: - Billing the insurance for both technical and professional components. 9. Patient Follow-Up Tracking: - Tracking follow-up appointments and patient outcomes. 10. Secure Messaging and Communication: - Communicating between all parties involved in the patient's care. 11. Data Analytics and Reporting: - Tracking key metrics and generating reports. 12. Integration with Electronic Health Records (EHR): - Syncing patient data and scan results with EHR systems. Total Time Savings per 100 Patients: - Ultrasound Technician: 40 hours - Vascular Specialist: 23.3 hours - Primary Care Doctor: 20 hours Did I miss any steps? The radiologist shortage is definitely here. There are different ways to approach the market, and balancing short-term vs long-term plays is nontrivial. Leverage is great, but using too much can amplify negative downstream second-order consequences too. Today I'm launching a small, simple site dedicated to helping radiologists find true private practices (and helping those practices find radiologists). It's a crazy job market out there, and there's a lot of noise gumming up the process. It's called Independent Radiology, and I hope it's helpful: https://lnkd.in/gNQydjSa It remains and will probably always be a work in progress. As was inevitable, it's taken more work than I anticipated or planned. Having a job board focused on groups/companies and not specific jobs is not how most boards are structured. But that's where I wanted to put the focus. I wish it'd been ready in early July. But there are 20+ groups advertising on launch day, and probably another 20-30 coming over the next few weeks. Not everyone needs/wants to work in private practice, and of course that's fine. But I wanted to make some space online to help those who do find what they're looking for.
