Effective waste management is crucial for protecting our environment, conserving resources, and ensuring a sustainable future for generations to come. 🌍♻️ Few years ago, together with our partners Siemens Industry and University of Leoben, Pro2Future GmbH started a project called #recAIcle. The project is founded by FFG Austrian Research Promotion Agency. Despite the stagnation in innovation for manual sorting, our project demonstrated the transformative potential of AI and machine learning in waste management. The project team developed an AI-powered assistant system for digitizing manual waste sorting. A part of the work is presented in the recently published article where we showed an excellent classification accuracy of 81% achieved on an experimentally acquired dataset.
