Natural vs. Synthetic Rubber in the Tire Industry Both natural and synthetic rubber have their roles to play in the rubber industry. Natural rubber, sourced from rubber trees, boasts elasticity and resilience. On the other hand, synthetic rubber, a human-made alternative, replicates many desirable qualities of natural rubber and in some respects even surpassed it. It offers consistent quality, resistance to environmental factors, and customizability for specific tire applications. While synthetic rubber has made significant inroads, it hasn't entirely dethroned its natural counterpart. In the world of winter tires, natural rubber reigns supreme, with its cold-resistant flexibility. In contrast, synthetic rubber excels in crafting summer tires, thanks to its heat resistance. Currently, approximately 60% of rubber used in the tire industry is synthetic, derived from petroleum hydrocarbons. The remaining 40% still relies on natural rubber. So, the verdict is clear: natural and synthetic rubber are like two sides of the same coin, each bringing its strengths to the tire industry.
