Formula One teams will be facing one of the toughest tests of the season this weekend in Mexico. 🏎 The back-to-back races in Austin, Mexico City and Sao Paulo present the teams with an intense human, logistical and competitive challenge which includes transporting around 100 people and 50 tonnes of equipment more than 16,000 miles in three weeks, managing garage, engineering and hospitality facilities, and maintaining a meticulous level of car preparation. The teams’ personnel will be coping with jet lag, heat, altitude, three weeks away from home and family, living on the road in close proximity to their teammates, all under the pressure to perform at their very best towards the end of a long, tiring season. Altitude is always a factor in Mexico City as the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez is the highest circuit 🏔on the F1 calendar at 2200m above sea level. With minimal time to acclimatize following the short turnaround from Austin, the pit crews may find it harder to work. The altitude also presents cooling issues for the cars, and therefore more potential failures for the crews to deal with over the race weekend. It’s vital therefore that the teams do everything they can to look after their personnel and prepare them for these triple-header races. 👩⚕️Doctors, physios, nutritionists and sleep experts are often involved in ensuring that the travelling team have the stamina to manage the tough schedule. 💪The pit crews train throughout the year to be physically fit for these races🏋♂️. 🧠 Mental preparation is equally important and part of this is having strong camaraderie within the team. When team members support each other, it helps to reduce stress and keep workloads manageable. Being part of a highly cohesive team contributes to the wellbeing of each individual team member, as well as the team as a whole. With a supportive team culture, everyone is able to perform better. The Paddock Club for VIP entertainment in Singapore costs a whopping USD 11,000 or more for a 3 day pass. Free flowing champagne, food by Michelin star chefs, and more. Singapore has been hosting the Formula One Night Race since 2008. Some 260,000 spectators attended F1 in Singapore this year. September is the month of the Formula One (F1) in Singapore. I attended the Singapore F1 again after a break of a few years. The mood at this year’s Singapore F1 was electric. Busy. Fun. International. And, truly exciting. There is something about fast cars - speed, danger, suspense, pure excitement, and more. F1 cars race at a top speed of some 360km/hour, which is a little bit more than the Shinkansen Bullet Train. It is truly amazing to see drivers in their cars whiz past you, pure energy and so very noisy. They say, F1 races typically reach 140 decibels, just below the level that causes permanent hearing loss! A lot of things happen on a F1 circuit. Spectacular crashes. Cars which break down. Pit-stops which only take seconds to change the tires. Cars which overtake and are overtaken. After 62 laps going at over 300km/hour, the time difference between the first and second place are usually seconds, or less than a second! It’s an exciting, fast paced, very very interesting race. Corporate motorsports hospitality growth potential in India Both F1 and MotoGP started in Europe, but they are now truly global, and there is a truly global fan base. Originally with a European fan base, this has expanded to the Americas and then Asia, Australasia. Fans from Europe come to Singapore and India, and Asian fans go overseas to popular races. Valencia and Barcelona are popular destinations for MotoGP, for example. F1 in 2023 is held in 22 circuits globally, starting with Bahrain and concluding in Abu Dhabi. MotoGP in 2023 is held in 20 circuits globally, starting with Algarve (Portugal) and concluding in Valencia (Spain). I caught up with my friend from Barcelona Ms Griselda Foguet Plaza who is Hospitality & Experiences Director of Dorna Sports which runs the MotoGP business globally. “It was the first time that we did MotoGP in India. I felt there is a huge and much bigger potential for MotoGP in India. We are of course coming back next year, which will be bigger and better” said Griselda san. MotoGP just held its India debut race just in October 2023. MotoGP India had over 110,000 spectators join in its inaugural year. Corporate motorsports hospitality entertainment is big. Top B to B customers are invited to motorsports events. Entertaining top customers at the F1 is really big. The Paddock Club for VIP entertainment in Singapore costs a whopping 11,000 USD or more for a 3 day pass. Free flowing champagne, food by Michelin star chefs, and more. For MotoGP India it can start from 2,000 Euros for a 2 day pass, but prices are likely set to increase next year. VIP corporate motorsports entertainment at hospitality suites are more and more popular - that wine and dine at the highest levels to ensure better business relationships and deals. For those who are not at the hospitality suites, in other words the majority of spectators, food and drinks can be on the pricey side at the food stalls, but given the fantastic atmosphere of enjoying food and drink at motorsports events, customers are happy to pay that bit extra. F1 may come back to India, and MotoGP will only grow in India, it will be exciting to see motorsports grow in India, and VIP corporate hospitality too. Formula E – Progress is Unstoppable A new campaign from #Uncommon London marries four wheels and two wings as a race car drives out of a cargo plane in this exhilarating new film. This campaign from Uncommon London and Sam Walker, pushes #FormulaE to new heights as we witness one of the competition's cars plummet to the earth from a cargo plane. The two-minute film, called Progress is Unstoppable, is focussed on the exhilaration and thrill of removing all restraints in a bid to push forward, as well as on the immense focus of Formula E drivers.  Directed by Sam Walker, the film opens on a white bird fluttering around a cage before we cut to a driver sitting patiently on a bench. The driver moves to the driver’s seat of his GEN3 car as his surroundings revealing themselves as the inside of a plane. Next, the huge cargo doors open to reveal the huge expanse of sky. Then, to the shrill sound of the electric motor, the driver accelerates out of the plane and he and the car tumble towards the ground.As the action builds and the car plummets, the driver then ejects himself and parachutes to safety as we follow the car as it continues its downward journey as it moves faster and faster, and gets closer and closer to the ground before, at the last moment, we cut back to our caged birds set free and the title ‘Progress is unstoppable’. “This film is the story of Formula E’s journey and unrelenting progress forward told through the Gen3 car and its fearless drivers," said Nils Leonard, Co-Founder at Uncommon. Idea number four: Circuit Italia. Located 30 minutes from the Newcastle CBD, the region has been waiting for a circuit to be built to feed the strong car culture that it’s famously known for. And whilst motorsport will celebrate what looks to be an awesome track to drive, will it host a Supercars event? Now one thing we do have to respect is that this is a private facility, so at what capacity they choose to have the circuit open to everyone is totally up to the owners. But… In a recent V8 Sleuth article published 4/10/2023, it was noted that circuit manager Damien White reached out to Kate Washington MP for Port Stephen’s, Steve Kamper - minister for sport Nsw, John Graham- minister for tourism Nsw and to Motorsport Australia and Supercars about the track but had yet to hear a response. Keeping in mind, this article was published in October and this may have since changed, especially given the Newcastle street circuit now finishing up. We wonder if conversations have started shifting to Circuit Italia? Whilst the asphalt is down and the circuit is nearly ready, I’m surprised City of Newcastle stated that they will put there support behind Cessnock City Council to host a Supercars event despite this purpose built facility which is not only nearing completion, but is also just half an hour away from the city centre. Circuit Italia has offered a solution for all to be happy, even the east end resident approve of it, so its unusual that Newcastle City Council hasn’t more vocally given this option consideration. Regardless of what discussions are happening at the moment, I think Circuit Italia would offer a long term solution for all motorsports events in the Hunter for many years to come that we can all be proud of.
