Unprecedented, unexpected, unfounded…so many terms that apply so painfully, and not just in this story! Leaders, their expertise, reputation or experience notwithstanding are felled often without warning and for no fault of their own or their teams even…no data to justify or provide even the solace of the “if onlys”. The only “reason” I could ascribe to such totally baffling, unfounded occurrences, could probably be found within our very human-ness. Call it nature, fate, karma…there is no AI or tech to unravel such and other mysteries that come without warning, a calling card or data. Very strange & tragic!!! 2 kg weight gain over- night???? Disqualification on account of 100 grms excess. As a person, it will mean/take a very special kind mental & spiritual strenght to handle & overcome this. Even though many (including her competitors) will see her as the champ, I wonder how much (if at all!) of a consolation that can be to Vinesh. By the same token, for those who lost to her, deep within & in the spirit of true sportsmanship, will it actually be possible to not feel that tug & rejoyce the fall of a “compatriot”; their wins on account of this will always be “luck” rather than sheer performance. Someone said success is 99% hard work and 1% luck. Even vice versa, I guess the element of luck is the determining factor- even at 1%, luck is often more powerful than the 99.

This is relevant in all aspects of life.

Wow, I just finished reading about Carlo Paalam. This guy is a freaking legend! From rummaging through garbage for a living to clinching an Olympic silver medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and now competing in the 2024 Paris Olympics, that’s not just inspiring; it's a straight-up knockout. His nickname, "Pipi Lata" or "tin-can crusher," is pure grit personified. It's like he's telling the world, "I've been through hell, but I'm here to stay." And boy, has he stayed!
