Research Fellow at the University of Birmingham's Centre for Elections, Democracy, Accountability and Representation (CEDAR)
Are you researching Democratic Resilience? CEDAR is organizing a panel on Democratic Resilience for the upcoming conference of the Italian Political Science Association in Trieste, scheduled for September 12-14. Deadline: 31 May. Here's the Call for Papers: This panel welcomes theoretical and empirical contributions, including those that take a critical outlook on the concept of “resilience” and its application in the nascent resilience scholarship. We particularly, but not exclusively, invite proposals that can shed light on the following questions: • How should we conceptualise democratic resilience? • Why do some countries demonstrate greater democratic resilience, and a stronger capacity for renovation and rebirth, than others? • What are the local, national, and/or transnational actors, factors, and processes that shape democratic resilience? • As attention to participatory practices has grown in response to democratic fears (e.g. Asenbaum and Hanusch 2021; Bua and Bussu 2021), how can we understand democratic resilience in relation to the proliferation of small-scale, local experimentation with alternative democratic practices? • How can we understand democratic resilience in relation to wider processes of state and governance transformation? • As global capitalism transformations are increasingly mentioned as the background for global autocratisation trends (e.g. Riedl et al. 2023), how should we understand democratic resilience in relation to this wider context? For additional details, please visit: https://lnkd.in/dbvyxNMm. Guidelines for paper submission can be found here: https://lnkd.in/dzssPMCd Feel free to contact Licia Cianetti (l.cianetti@bham.ac.uk) with any questions.
